My System Specs

Default

Thanks for all your help everyone. I will likely put an order in tomorrow sometime. Opinions, so far, are coming in kind of how I expected (though I very much appreciate them and hope to get some more before I finalize everything).

Seem pretty much unanimous that I go for the faster G.Skill ram (which I will do).

As for the motherboard, I don't see the point in going through the added expense of a 790gx based board (if the 780g isn't enough I will go with a dedicated video card later), and I don't want to buy a separate card if I don't need it (that is my reasoning for not going with a 770 based board).

As for hard drive I see that some people are turned off from seagate (which I expected), but that some like the 7200.12. I am leaning toward that at the moment because of both price/GB and because the one I linked to earlier (ST3500418AS) is from what I can tell a single platter (less moving parts sounds good to me). Anyone have any more to say on that HD choice or info on the Hitachi drive (or others)?

For burner we have 1 vote for pioneer and one for whatever, so I guess I will check prices and go off that (unless someone has something else to add).

As for case the Elite 310 does look pretty nice. I may switch to that from the 330.

I will check out NCIX and do price comparisons before ordering, but with NCIX I will have to pay for shipping (so the price would have to come down atleast the cost of shipping for me to save anything over DC). Is there any other reason to order from NCIX over DC if it doesn't save any $?? (I know they are co-owned already).

Please keep the info coming.

My only suggestion is to maybe up the PSU to the 550 to give you room for a decent Mid level GPU down the road.

Not that the 400W can't power one , but Its usually wiser to have a Higher Watt PSU running at 50% Capacity, than a Lower one at 90%.

My thoughts, Good Build though. I am well and truely Impressed with both AMD and Gigabyte these days.

Regards,
ST

The added expense of the 790GX gets you a much better integrated graphics solution... its also full ATX which helps with motherboard layout ect. But the decision is yours.

Just so you know, price/GB goes to the WD 640 ;) 10 cents per gb vs 11 cents per gb. The seagate is faster then the AAKS but not the AKLS.

My System Specs

Default That was fast

Well...last night (thanks to Jon_di2 info on when sales start at NCIX) I ended up doing my order. I know its not the best computer in the world, but its not meant to be. I ended up ordering a Seasonic S12II 500w that was on sale for $59.99 (I thought that was an amazing price and jumped at it). Also changed my case from elite 330 to the antec three hundred (was on sale for $49.99). For motherboard I stuck with my original pick of the asus m3a78-em. For memory I got another great deal, OCZ XTC platinum DDR2 1066 for $59.99. Ordered a samsung drive that was on sale for $21.99 and got the 7200.12 500gb. Now I just have to hope it all makes it too me without damage. All total (shipping, tax and including the phenom II x3 710 from Newegg, which I still think was an amazing deal at $114 with free shipping) my entire build cost me $570 (I think there is $30 in mail in rebates as well, but who knows if I will ever see that money). Only other expense I may have, if required, is a dedicated video card (but for me it would be a sub $100 card). Time will tell if the integrated HD 3200 will be enough.

Thanks again everyone for your help and for letting me in on when the deals start at NCIX. I spent a bit more than I was originally going to, but I also have a better case, memory, and power supply then I would have otherwise bought.
