Default Some questions with a new i7 build

So I've been researching for a few weeks now and have a good list of things I'd like to put into my new i7 system.

I'm not going high end, as I have a budget around $1500 all in.
My main use will be for web/graphic design+programming (Adobe CS4 suite, minor video editing, maybe some 3D in the future) as well as casual gaming. I don't play anything too graphically intensive atm, but I'd like to be able to play some top games, yet not necessarily on the top settings. I would also like to keep the option open of upgrading my 19" monitor to something bigger, and for keeping this computer for 5 or so years..

I'll also be doing some decent OCing on the CPU and video card

Here's what I have.

Core i7 920 "D0"
EVGA X58 SLI LE --> new edition that came out
OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 6GB
WD Caviar Black 640 GB
Geforce 275 GTX
Corsair 550W/650W/750W(?) PSU
Noctua NH-U12P CPU fan
Case (undecided)

I calculated this to be ~$1200 before shipping/taxes.

Questions:

Now I know the EVGA x58 SLI LE mobo just came out, but it seems to be a decent product. Good review here: EVGA X58 LE - Brolloks Review - Overclockers Forums. Seems the only draw back is the configuration of the PCI slots and having the 2nd video card running at 8x instead of 16x. This shouldn't be a problem for me atm as I only plan to get 1 video card... running SLI is an option down the road if I find that I need it. Doesn't even seem to be that much of a problem at all unless you had a GTX 295.

I see many people doubling up to 12GB of RAM.. necessary or overkill?

Also.. what would you recommend for power out of the 550W/650W/750W? I'm thinking 650.. just to keep options open for future. Maybe the 620?

And can anyone recommend a good case for ~$100 that is has good air flow and can fit the Noctua fan? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4350406&SRCCODE=SHOPBOT&cm_mmc_o=2mHCjCmtB5_BfCjCVqHCjCdwwp

Thanks

Nice set of parts you have picked out. I would make a couple of recommendations though.

First, best and most power supply you can afford. I would go at least 750 W, in case you ever decide to up the video card for example.

Second, I would look for only 6 GB of RAM but get the lowest latency you can afford as it seems that low latency is a bit better than higher clock speeds.

The EVGA X58 SLI LE looks like a great motherboard. Since you are not planning to SLI, and not many people but enthusiast do it anyway, a single x16 PCIe will not be a problem.

As for the case many here would recommend the Coolermaster CM 690, NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster cm 690 Mid Tower Black ATX Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT No PS Front USB Sound Firewire & eSATA - RC-690-KKN1 In Canada. and I would second it... a great case, good room, and I would get a couple of extra 120mm fans, one or two for the top and one at least for the side. Top exhaust and side blowing in. I am not 100% on the fit of the CPU HS but it should be fine... someone else have experience here?

I'm pretty happy with the case.
Didn't like the "cable management" clips so I took the off.

As for the fit of the HSF...
NCIX FORUMS - will this fit height wise in a CM 690? - Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 LGA1366 i7 Heatpip...

I have the NV-690 (Nvidia edition) case and it doesn't have the top side fan so maybe you should look for one of those.
NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster NV-690 Mid Tower Black ATX Case 524.5X213X482MM Standard ATX PS2 USBX2 Firewire & eSATA - NV-690C-KWN1-GP In Canada.

I think you can order just the side-panel with a clear window if you like.

thanks for the reply's.

I'll take a closer look into the CM 690.. and issues with fitting CPU fans.
I'm also looking at the thermaltake V9 Black Edition Case... a bit more expensive, but still around the $100 mark. Would look really nice with the black EVGA x58 SLI LE mobo. How would this one compare to the CM 690?

Also I'd like to hear more opinions on the power supply. Some reviews have said that 750W would be overkill and a 600W-650W could run a dual SLI setup just fine.
