Default Need help with new build

Hey guys, bad new is my current set up just died on me /cry

Good news is Wife said, go ahead build a new one!!! WEWT

So think of going i7, and of course reading all the reviews on the boards latey have me drooling, but do i need all that high end stuff? i dont think so!

I am not going to go multiable video cards, so getting a triple SLI is kinda a waste for me i think? I do game, but i play WoW so really dont need all that high end video of triple sli.

So what i am asking is, what motherboard would you recommend? I do video and picture editing, WoW, watch movies, stream movies to my PS3 ect....

not really into overclocking, but am going to liquidcool it, becasue i want to lol

thank for the advice, and of course like last time i buiilt one, i will do a review of the build and hardware )i know that was 2 years ago, but hey lol)

My System Specs

Default

You should list it like it is in this topic -- NOTICE - PC builders, when asking for input on YOUR projects Please Tell
By the sounds of it you're looking for a midrange gaming rig.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing. video and picture editing, WoW, watch movies, stream movies to my PS3 ect

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread -- $2500

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. Canada

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture. i prefer to go intel over amd

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. New build top to bottom

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads. Yes, and no,

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Default

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? This weekend if i can get the parts

Hmm thats a huge budget for what you need, personally id just grab a good AMD 790X motherboard, a ATI 4770,4850, or an nivida GTS 250 (both come in around the $120-$140 mark normally), either an x3 720 BE tri core processor or an x4 940 BE quad core.

Ram wise go with G.Skill and grab some DDR2 8000s, they will normally run you around $55 and are great ram moduals. Throw in a decent case, coolermaster have some very nice ones, also the antec 902 is decent, but if your willing to spend more take a look at the silverstone fortress case or some of their others, a little pricy but awesome cases. Try and grab a decent 550w psu like a corsair VX550 or maybe the modular 520. For hard drives stick with the western digital black dual processor ones, their roughly the same price as other but quite a bit faster, the 640gb ones are great because of the dual platters they are quite zippy. For DVD writers stick with samsung or panasonic, LG isnt bad but ive had some problems with them in the past.

That build wont cost more then $1200 or so and more then likely that includes a monitor. use the RC version of windows 7 for free untill june 2010 and save yourself some cash. If your want a little horse power for desktop computing the quad will help a little (video conversion) if not the x3 720 is pretty good for a gaming PC. If your not overclocking though you could change that up to an intel P45 motherboard and an E8400, that set up is going to be faster without overclocking when gaming then either of the phenoms.

Either stick with 775/AM2 or wait for i5

Well cant wait for i5 unless it is out next week lol

So your suggesting to go 775 then, hmmm never really though about that, i guess i just ASSUMED that going i7 was the next logical choice (new stuff right).

I dont mind building to over meet what i need, cause you never know what game might catch my eye, and i want to be able to play it smoothly. One thing i forgot to add is that i run 2 24" Samsung LCD monitors, not sure if that makes a difference or not, but............

WOW.... Spending someone elses $ 2500 is fun! Here's my suggestion:

Intel Q9550 $ 250 (Jump on this!)
Mobo: GA-EP45-UD3P $ 147 (after $ 20 MIR)
GPU: GeForce GTX 275 $ 268 (after $ 20 MIR) (Good for rendering video in CS4???)
Ram: OCZ Reaper 4Gb PC-8500 $ 77 (after $ 20 MIR) (x2 for 8 Gb if you render a lot of video...)
SSD for OS: OCZ Vertex 120Gb $ 446 (FAST!!) Edit... Just spotted this one for $ 369!!!
HDD for storage: WD 1Tb WD1001FALS Caviar Black $ 109 (HUGE!!)
PSU: Corsair TX850 $ 110 (after $ 34 MIR)
CPU Cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283 $ 39 (after $ 5 MIR)

This totals $ 1523 which leaves you $ 977 for a case, dvd/blue-ray and other fun peripherals you might need! Oh and install W7 64-bit for free until it becomes available for purchase!

This will be a kick-ass system! More then what you need and good for a while to come! You like???

Ps. Don't forget to pricematch! You might save a few dollars here and there!
