Default Small Form Factor i7

okay, I don't want to know what you guys think about small form factor rigs, so much as if these parts are good.

this rig will be used mostly for gaming (anything and everything really, from WoW to Crysis) on up to a 24" (1600x1200) screen, as well as some F@H, but needs the smaller size to go from LAN to LAN. 3D rendering may also be a use, not entirely sure yet. No Over-clocking

budget is ~2000$, can be slightly above within reason or if there is a really good reason to

I haven't been able to check prices from every online retailer nor do I know the ins and outs of what's best, but that's why I'm posting here.

Mobo: ASUS Rampage II Gene 270$
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 (srsly, it's beast enough) 325$
GFX: EVGA GeForce GTX 275 280$
RAM: Corsair XMS3 6GB DDR3 1333mhz 145$
PSU: Corsair HX620 (I reckon this is enough for a lone 275) 130$
HDD: WD Caviar Black 640GB 78$
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit 140$
Wireless: TBD 80$
Optical Drive: LiteOn 4x BD-R 222$
Case: NZXT Rogue (SFF) 170$

Subtotal: 1840$ CAD
Taxes (13%): 2079$

I rounded all prices up because I hate typing in .99 after every price ><

all prices from newegg

Am I forgetting anything? I don't think so...but good to have someone double check XD

edit: yeah, another option I was looking at was to potentially drop the blu-ray player in favor of a normal dvd drive and getting an OCZ vendetta SSD (30GB) for 140$ to put the OS on...but I don't know if load times are THAT important...what do you think?

Don't use a 30Gb SSD for the OS drive - Winsxs is growing and getting larger daily. My Fold rig OS (Vista Premium 64) is already 25Gb in size.

Try to use a modular PSU in that case, or any SFF case for the matter. Much easier in cable management.

Change the caviar black 500 for 640, faster and not realy more expensive. The case is correct but NZXT fan suck a lot :) get Yate loon or Noctua to replace them because the PC will be a true trubine. Aslo swich the D-link to a linksys, D-link use the same ******* antena from the bigining resulting in many overload of it and connection crash the time the antenna get empty. Linksys don't have this problem. You can also drop the blu ray for now, or get a cheap LG for 100$, Blu ray are to expensive and are not realy set on the computer market. Wait for them coming to descent price.

I don't recommend DFI boards especially the matx ones.

I may only have a 775 dfi matx board but holy does it suck the fat one.

ooh, thanks, that's good to know, any recommendations on a decent SSD? do you personally use a SSD for your OS? how is it? worth it?

good point on the modular psu...I'll look for an equivalent.

hmm, yeah, investing in better fans does sound like a good idea. true on the BD, burning would be pointless, since not many people I could give a blu ray disc with content on it...reader would be a better option...I'll think about it.

care to elaborate on what you mean by "connection crash the time the antenna get empty"? I'm guessing you went off on a rant tangent and didn't make yourself quite clear.

thanks for the input so far guys, it's appreciated

ahah sorry i explain.( I use the term full as reference to the bandwitch the antenna have with the routeur ) When Wireless start the amount of data going by was little but now much and much data are passing by the antena at a time. and when the antena is slower she finish by getting full like a funnel. The only way to clean it is to interupt connection for about 5 second ( wich is time for windows to cut connection ) empty the antena and then try to re-connect. It result in connection lose and web disconection. If you are no on a automatique connection internet you will need all these time to reconect manually. Is it more clear right now?

okay, well just to let you guys know, I put in the order at NCIX
here are the parts I will be using

ASUS Rampage II Gene
Intel Core i7 920
Corsair XMS3 3x2GB DDR3 1600MHz 7-7-7-20
EVGA GTX 275
WD Caviar Black 640GB
Corsair HX620
Sony Internal BD-R
NZXT Rogue

after price match, before taxes: 1491.31CAD

I'm going to buy the wireless network card locally and look out for deals on a good 60/64GB SSD for the OS...but for now, I'll be using the WD.

MSI has the mighty mouse and EVGA is gonna launch a new mATX x58 board that sorta looks like the classified mix with the LE.
New X58 Mobos Coming Soon!

It's the red one.
