My System Specs

Default 2 builds reviews

Set up 1: Use will be for a gamer and a sound mixer(he will be using an external sound card) Budget is as cheap as possible, but no more than 1000$ all included. Do you have any recommendations to make this a more powerful build or more adequate for the needs. Should I go with a Caviar Green instead of Black if the black is cheaper ?
How will the CPU handle the task ? I would probably go with Windows 7 RC. Did I forget anything ? No overclocking will be done.

Will everything fit in the case ?

Case: Coolermaster Sileo
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 610W
CPU: Intel E8400
Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L
RAM: G.Skill PC2-6400 2x2gb
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
DVD: Samsung S223Q
GPU: EVGA GTX 260
Microsoft communication Pack 3000

The set-up in the show case comes to 939.93 at the doorstep.

Set up 2: Use will be for moderate gaming and basic use. Budget is up to 1200 all included. I will probably go with Windows 7 RC. I have never overclocked, but I am quite interested in trying. The P183 may not be the favorite here, feel free to expose some suggestions, but I really like this case and I am not likely to change it. I also have 2 Noctua NF-S12-1200 fans that I will add in the case, I will judge after if I replace the tri-cool or not.

Case: Antec P183
PSU: PC Power & Cooling 610W
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940BE
Mobo: Gigabyte MA-790X-UD4P
RAM: G.Skill PC2-8000 2x2gb
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
DVD: LG GH22NS30
GPU: EVGA GTX 260
HSF: OCZ Vendetta II

Any suggestions for this second build ?

Set up 2 comes to 1080 at my door.

In both builds there are 2 items which are the same and that would have MIR, would it still work or would I only get 1 MIR per product per address ?

Edit: I replaced the mobo of the second set up from GA-MA770-UD3 by the GA-MA-790X-UD4P.

sorry i am not sure what your question is? both systems look good to me. if it's a compare post then i would go with the phenom 940 if no overclocking. 8400 for overclocking just cause new to overclocking the 8400 will be easier and the learning curve won't be as bad. well that's my take

Sorry for not explaining well enough...

The Intel build would be for my cousin. Do you think it will suit his needs, any components I should change ?
The AMD build would be for me. Would it suit my needs ? Any components I should change ?

Both is solid, maybe go with the Phenom II 710 or 720 for the first built and don't forget to price match

All prices are PMed, as for this combo, it comes 30$ pricier, 55 after MIR(I know I can only expect this one to come for new year if I am lucky). Trying to see if I can PM it lower. And how is the CP-850 ?

Any reasons for going with a 710 or 720 for the 1st build ?

Depends if your overclocking the builds or not, if your not keep the E8400, if you are the E8400 will still overclock higher and be more powerfull for 90% of gaming. The X3 720 overclocks decently but most hit issues at 3.8ghz on air where as the E8400 E0s are capable of 4ghz and beyond on air and 4.5ghz under water. Id say drop the X4 in the 2nd build for an x3 to save money, maybe throw that money at a GTX 275 instead of the GTX 260, you can get GTX 275s for under $260 if you watch sales, I know I just saw one for $249 to other day. The 4th core will not give you more FPS for your money then the extra video card power would. Make sure if your looking at getting the most out of either system, especially the AMD one, that you grab a good aftermarket cooler like the xigmatek HDT-1283 or OCZ vendetta 2, those CPUs are so easy to overclock its not funny. This will also give you a huge boost in frame rates for the same price you would pay anyways.

I personally think the 183 is over priced for what you get, check out the NZXT silent cases if thats what your looking for or just grab a half decent coolermaster case for under $150... this rig by no means needs an 850w psu, MAX it would need is 650w and even that I would say is well above required.

Already mentionned I'd get the Vendetta 2

I agree the P183 is pricey, yet I can't help but like it... I looked at the whole line up from NZXT and the only one I thought was interesting was the NZXT Hush, but for now, I am not changing my mind. I know 850w is way too much for my needs. I would go for it only if it was financially worth it even if it looks like a great PSU. I am quite confident the Silencer will be very good. I would have appreciated a bit more headroom, but I am pretty sure I will always 80% or less of the silencer 610.

btw, any idea if I can buy twice the same item with MIR and claim both ?
