I'd bet you could build a wc'ed version without the fancy paint job for probably $5k. Let me work on it.

OK, so $4600, no pricematching done, without Vista, or mouse and keyboard. And a CPU WC loop could be done for about $300. That's a little cheaper than the $8700 in the article. I went with 3x GTX275 SCs, because that would be about equal to the 280's.

So throw a TRUE and 2 good fans on it. $100.

Edit: and go to a TJ-09 case, better air flow, less money. Saves about $75.

Another reason you can point to when you tell him he's and idiot to want an $8000+ machine.

There are some lower quality all in one solutions that might help avoid dealing with water but still leave him with a "water" cooling setup though.

Is a 965 chip really worth the $1200.

Or go with the Boreas edition Silverstone from Cool-it. Selfcontained TEC cooler.

Not in my books. That system showed it at 3.97 GHZ, you should get a D0 920 to that easily under water.

I suggested a 920, but he's not sure about OC'ing...
