Default The Folding Bug Spreads

Hey Everyone,
Haven't had to make my own post in here in a While, but I'd like some advice if possible.

What will the Rig be used for: Folding, absolutely Nothing else.

Fanboy: nVidia for the GPU obviously, but for everything else, the sky is the limit!

Pricerange: 500-600 Taxes in, less is obviously Better.

Parts Already on Hand: Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse/OS - everything else is required.

OC'ing: Stock SPeeds, pretty much want to set it and forget about them.

Will they be folding for 54196: Yes!!!

Where are the Parts From: Anywhere E-tailer or otherwise in Canada.

Okies, hopefully that will give you all the jist of it.
My Father and my co-worker have watched my steady devotion to the cause, and have wanted to jump on board as well.
Obviously they do have a finite budget, but still anything is better than nothing.
I've been messing around with builds for a bit, and I am confident I could put something together, but I really value the advice I get here.
So, fire away, and lets help HWC get another pair of Folders into the Mix!

Regards,
ST

Go AMD with todays GPU client I dont see the need for a highend cpu. Over 90% of your points come from the gpu client.

Maybe a used x3-x4 gen 1 , or a new x-2.Newegg.ca - GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 AM2+/AM2 AMD 740G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

GPU I would go with a 88 or 9800 again used, decient ppd for cheap.

hdd, just grab a wd se16 or compairable drive. ODD again grab the cheapest pricematch is key.

As for a case that might depend on their tastes.

Yeah, I'd suggest an AMD bundle as well, but don't pull the trigger until you see what kind of AMD bundles NCIX comes out with in their next sale. They had some pretty good "limited quantities" sub $150 bundle deals in the last sale and I have a sneaking suspicion that there might be more on the way. (No inside information... just a feeling.... :) ).

The only problem then becomes finding a fairly decent PSU at a reasonable price (any $50 case will do... :) ).... normally I'd suggest the Sonatta III, but it's been up around $150 lately and that seems a bit high to me. If they're not in a big hurry, just keep your eyes open to see what goes on sale.

I have started a budget folder with
-NCIX.com - Buy AMD Power of Black Bundle Deal Ahtlon X2 7850 2.8GHZ AM2+ CPU & ASUS M3A78-CM DDR2 Motherboard - 7850-M3A78-CM In Canada.-haven't tried overclocking yet.
-spare 80 gb seagate sata drive
-650 watt glacial power psu that I got for free
-case from one of my earlier builds
-spare usb mouse
-spare ps2 keyboard
-spare ide dvd burner
-4 gb mushkin ram (had to buy that)
-spare crt that I paid $5 for
-looking for a 8800 gt or something like that, the spare 8500gt I have does not have the balls for productive gpu folding
-running windows 7 and currently running VMWare player/notfreds folding appliance-2000ppd

Case Wise, I have Elite 332 from CM in my sights, but not 100% on it.
PSU is ULTRA LSP550 for now, unless I find a PC P or Corsair For around the same.

Yeah, Chip I was thinking an AMD bundle will be nice and cheap as well.
GPU, more than likely 9800GTX+ or GTS250 depending on which I find for Cheaper.

Thing is, they both want the parts new so, I'm still fiddling around.

Regards,
ST

I totaly agree, go with a cheap AMD or a middle range like X3 or older X4 ( don't see the need ) for about 250$ you can have cheap cheap everything and then add the extre in a midrange PSU like antec earthwatt 500 or 650 ( 15$ more lol ) and put about 200 in a good video card such a GTX 260 you are going to fild hard and if your computer is doing nothing your little AMD cpu will be able to fold a little more. Talam now you can go up in the folding world of cloud.

Okay, I'll look at those AMD Bundles, and hopefully be able to scout out a good nVidia Card for Cheap over the next few days.

Intersting how the bug spreads is it not?

Thanks guys,

ST
