Default Ready to Pull the Trigger: Thoughts/Comments Appreciated

Hi guys,

Planning on placing an order within the next day or so. Just looking for some thoughts/comments on the build before I pull the trigger. Will be using the computer for music/movies/games/surfing. Not planning on overclocking so didn't think a after market cooler would be necessary. Comes in @ under $1,500 at the moment. Just want to make sure I'm not making any egregious errors.

CPU - Q9550
MOBO - Asus P5N-D 750i
GPU - EVGA GTX 275 (Superclocked)
HDD - WD 640gb Black
RAM - Corsair XMS2 Twin 6400 4gb
PSU - Corsair TX750W ATX
DVD - LG GH22NS30 Black DVD+RW
CASE - CM 690
O/S - MS Vista 64 Bit

Will be ordering from NCIX so any tips would be much appreciated.

Id rather see a 750i FTW in there or theres a 750i XFX extreme at tigardirect.ca right now for $129, not a big fan of the P5N-D. the rest looks good to me, although you could probubly build an i7 for close to the same price as that, maybe $50 more or so.

You might also want to consider downloading the Windows 7 RC beta that's available for free now rather than investing in Vista (it's just gonna disapear like Milenium did.... :) ) when they're going to release Win 7 officially before the end of the year.

yeah, vista is going to be remembered like ME... Not that I had a problem with either, the free RC version of windows 7 is a nice way to get an OS =)

Get a P45 motherboard if you don't plan to overclock.

Check out some Phenom II builds and Core i7 builds that are posted here. $1500 seems pretty expensive for what you're buying. Does your budget include the monitor and stuff?

Also, don't forget to check out NCIX's sale and to PM the competition.

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at the 750i XFX Extreme but I don't believe NCIX has it for sale currently. I need to stick to my $1,500 price ceiling so i7 is out of play. Is there an equivalent card (price) but better quality than the P5N-D?

Thank for the advice. P45's crossfire only? I'd like an SLI board if possible. No monitor included. Didn't realize it was expensive...

yeah EVGA has the 750i FTW motherboard, NCIX should have it in stock.

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA nForce 750I SLI Ftw LGA775 ATX DDR2 2PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 2PCI SATA RAID Sound GBLAN Motherboard - 123-YW-E175-A1 In Canada.

costs a bit more but its a better motherboard, theres a used one for sale in the B/S threads of this forum for $120 though if your ok with used parts. EVGA has a much better warranty then Asus.

I wouldnt say its expensive but make sure you check out pricecanada.com and search all the parts your buying, then goto NCIX and start a price matched order and price match to the lowest prices you can find =) that should cut down the cost a little.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I can't go with a used part since I'm getting NCIX to assemble the computer for me. Thanks for the tip on the MoBo, I'll probably end up going with the board you suggested. I'm thinking the reason for the "high cost" might be the $169.00 in taxes...
