Default How much would you pay for this system?

Hello,

I am looking to build a gaming rig
looking for these specs:
PHENOM X4 9600 at 2.4ghz
3GB RAM DDR2
Ati Radeon 4870 512mb version
800 Gb harddrive
Case+mouse+keyboard

what prices should i be expected to pay..
I am asking this because my "friend" said he can get me those parts for dirt cheap
but I am nvoice at this stuff.. so could you give me an idea of how much does this currently cost?

Also, should I wait for prices to go down ... because I can wait untill September..
but I do not want to wait just for a $50-100 price drop..

thanks in advance

Depending on the parts id say no more then $700-$800. the 9600 is a pretty old CPU that has come down alot in price, and not really to sure where he finding 3gb of decent quality ram >.<. The 4870 is roughly $240 or less right now. But like I said depending on the actual parts, you havent listed motherboard make and model, ram make or model, Power supply, type of case, type of mouse and keyboard... so its hard to really esitmate. For I know that could be a $500 build =P

Also 800GB hard drives don't exist. Just like the 3GB of RAM (unless you buy individual sticks which is stupid). So either your friend doesn't know much or he's not telling you the details properly.

I'd bump it up to 4GB (2x2GB) kit of RAM, and a Phenom II X3 or X4 with a 790X, 790GX or 790FX motherboard. Along with a 640GB Western Digital hard drive. That's the only kind of AMD system I'd consider, any prior Phenom's are rather bad, especially since a lot of them had bugs.

So no, I wouldn't buy this off your friend, unless its like $400 or something really cheap. I surely wouldn't pay more than $500 for it. Especially when I don't know what motherboard or power supply is in it, or this odd RAM and HDD size.

I agree with JD and Reality on this one.
Unless you have specifics , I wouldn't even consider this system.
The info doesn't seem entirely accurate so I'd wait until you know 100% what you are getting before you make and ideas on what you should pay for it.

Regards,
ST

Honestly, your best bet is to research the parts yourself and just buy/build it yourself, theres a ton of resources and help on these forums to do so and youd be WAY happier in the long run instead of buying old tech off your friend. A build like Jdrom pointed out would be much better then the listed build.
