Default upgrade to i7 yet?

hey guys whats your guys input on upgrading to the new i7 platform.
rite now i have whats in my sig.
here in my city we did some bench mark comparisons with pss test and i was not far behind with my 775 setup as is. actually beat them over all with my mystery drive. lol
and no the mysterydrive is not my 128gb ssd

if so from experience what board chip combo would you guys recommend?
also should i go tri channel or just dual channel ddr3 memory?

cheers

It wouldn't be a very worthy investment from that chip you have now.. but if you were to do it, triple channel is a no brainer.
Unless you're made of money... it's not a very cost effective upgrade.. considering you have a 45nm quad as it is..

Yes you would benefit a lot more from a GTX 275 or something rather than changing to i7.. i7 would be a bit faster yes, but not by enough to justify the cost, that's for sure. That's a nice chip you have already!

I7 isnt going to be around for 2-3 years persay, I could see it lasting no more then maybe 1.5 years before they goto another chipset, with the speed of CPU advancements lately they will more then likely goto another chipset. the difference between that CPU you have and an i7 isnt just speed, but theres also heat issues to deal with trying to get a 920 up to 4ghz stable is a real battle against temps. I think if you can handle what you have id stick with it atleast untill i7 matures and we see more of what the future of these chips has to offer =) And ya I second Jake HTs sudgestion of a new video card before even looking at a new CPU, that is if you game alot.

Try a single GTX 260 sp 216 then, or a 4870 1gb, both should do pretty well with your system and last you a decent amount longer then the 8800GTX.

This is roughly close to your system, be off by maybe a few FPS at best...

EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 55nm Superclocked Edition Video Card Review
