My System Specs

Default Budget build!

Hey everyone, my dad is looking to buy a new PC, some parts I'll be using so here goes.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming, browsing, but nothing too intensive

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Around 500-600 dollars would be nice (see parts I have)

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada!

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
For the mobo I would like an Intel chipset, otherwise it's all good. For video cards, any nvidia or a radeon with a decent warranty.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
C2D E6600 (think it's that one, 2.4ghz)
Silverstone 750W PSU
DVD Drive
250 GB Hard Drive
Maybe keep the case, maybe not. It has poor cooling so i'll probably need to buy him a new case.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Eh maybe a small overclock, nothing I'd spend much time on right now.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
In the next month I suppose, no hurry but if there are any good deals that'd be when I'll buy.

Awsome on the Parts you Already have.
Thats a good Chip and good PSU. Lots of headroom there.

NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster CM 690 Mid Tower Black ATX Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT No PS Front USB Sound Firewire & eSATA - RC-690-KKN1 In Canada.

CM690 Case, Great Airflow, good Internal setup.

HIS Radeon HD 4670 IceQ Turbo - 512MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, Dual DVI, HDTV, HDMI Support, Video Card H467QT512P in Canada at TigerDirect.ca

This will handle more or less everything I'd imagine your dad could throw at it.

NCIX.com - Buy Gigabyte EP45-UD3R ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 1366+ 1PCI-E SATA2 RAID HD Sound GLAN 1394A Motherboard - GA-EP45-UD3R In Canada.

Very good Board from what I've heard , probably a little overkill on the features though.

NCIX.com - Buy Mushkin EM PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - 996557 In Canada.

Solid Ram. Good Price too.
I'm sure you could get G.Skill around the same price or cheaper if you wanted.

Thats 471.62 after Taxes, no idea what the shipping would be.
And I don't know if you need an aftermarket HSF or if you will be using the stock one.

That is what I would build at least.

Good Luck!!

What resolution is your dad gaming at? If it's nothing over 1680X1050, a NVIDIA 9800GT or ATI 4830 will be enough.

I suggest that you get the Antec 300 instead of the 900 just to save some money. Look into the Cooler Master case as well. You could then get a OCZ Vendetta 2 and overclock that CPU to over 3Ghz.

As always, don't forget to price match the competition and check out what specials NCIX has.

Actually his monitor is a pretty old LCD, runs like 1280x768 or something like that. It will be used to moderate games, nothing too heavy really.

than a 9800gt or an hd4830 is more than enough, even 9600gt or hd4670 is more than ok.

Stock cooling should be ok is you only going to overclock a little

an Antec 300, Cooler Master 590 or 690 are great budget case

Great build, although if you really want to save some cash buy a slightly lower-end mobo, P35 maybe? That one will suit you fine no less.

The Antec 300 is small, and with that you'd definitely do yourself a favor getting an aftermarket HSF, nothing too fancy, but Vendetta II will do you great justice. It'll certainly handle a slightly overclocked E6600.
