yeh xbox360's and ps3's have issues with some codex's etc... that and it lags a bit when you run normal dvd's on it... i know i've tried. Dunno much about the ps3 however.. other than it won't do mkv... the standard HIDEF format on the torrent sites. Bottom line tho... that budget is too low for an actual computer build. The popcornhour looks reasonable if you're wanting to run stuff over your network. Be warned however... wireless networks will barely play AVI files.

i can say that the playback of both dvd's and blu-ray on the ps3 is fine. i don't notice any lag. On the popcorn hour. You don't have to use a network as you can plug a usb hdd into it or install a hdd internally. But yes wireless sucks for playback. If at all possible i would use the hardwired network interface. Or you can convert your mkv's to vob's that the PS3 can understand.
