Since it's free, I would take #2 and sell it to some sucker.

If it was free I could never justify taking an old X2 over a QX c2Q no mater how much ram is involved, sucks that it comes with such a poo video card though =(

What the hell? Even for testing these builds are way off. Why do you only have 2 or 1GB RAM for the better processors, but have SIXTEEN for some crappy AMD one? Seriously, get the Q9550 with 4GB ram AT LEAST, ESPECIALLY for Vista 64 bit! If you can afford 16GB RAM You could probably switch it for 4GB and get the QX9775 and the 4890! Damn!

I picked system number 2 for the purposes of dismantling and selling it, which you did not disallow

I'll sell the QX half its market value to get some additional cash, throw the RAM into my parents' PC because its current 3 GB RAM is dumb, put the video card into my main rig for additional folding, and if there's actually a mobo in that package of yours, I'll use it for target practice with my combat robot for an end effect similar to this: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-680i-die.html

I went with #2 as well, even though the RAM and GPU are rather low, it's still an amazing processor which makes it worth it. And the HD4650 isn't the worst GPU around, just not that great.

And for that 16GB AMD system? Is that even possible BTW? 4 DIMMs, 2GB max each ends up only being 8GB. Where are you finding 4GB DIMMs? But still, an X2 has no use for 16GB of RAM, the CPU would shyt itself before being able to have that many intensive tasks open. Definitely need an OC'd i7 at least to even attempt to use that much RAM.

And the Q9550S build is stupid too, 1GB of RAM, over-priced version of the Q9550 yet a brand new HD4890. In this case, the HD4890 would be held back by having nearly no-RAM while running Vista.

Overall, they're all terrible. Can't say I'd really use any of them.

To use that much ram youd need to be running a multi CPU server based motherboard and even then you wouldnt really be USING the ram untill that server started to get fully utilized I highly doubt a single i7 with 12gbs of ram is actually utilizing anywhere near 100% of that ram doing day to day stuff or gaming anywhere from 4-8gb is perfect for someone with a quad who games and does video encodes or what have you.

Does XP count as an upgrade?

Seriously though, none of those systems make sense, especially with a "No upgrade/downgrade" clause.

They're all crippled in some way.
Even #2 isn't viable as a server due to the crippled RAM and Vista.
