Try calling them see if you can trade it in or something? It's worth it I personally think.. not because of performance, but because ribbon IDE cables suck ass.

God know I hate those IDE ribbons, never tried the rounded one though. I say try calling them, you have nothing to loose.

Rounded is no different than a normal its just folded to look nice.

IDE cables are the devil and belong in systems from 10 yrs ago.

I also like to disable as much stuff via mobo cmos, and not having IDE devices allows me to turn off the controller.

Call em, and if they can't then it really is no big deal.

@ Lowfat, I did exactly that. Pulled all my DVD drives out of my systems now, and just use a USB samsung. Much easier.

Or install the drive in a working sata plug that doesnt need software? I dunno what you guys are talking about needing extra sata connectors, the 9 that I have on my motherboard does just fine for my single hard drive and single DVD writer... I agree with lowfat IDE ribbon cables are horible for cable management and are completely unneeded plus IDE connectors are almost NEVER in a good spot so you can easily tuck the cable out of the way its always somewhere all wrapped up in other cables. OP did you get the advanced RMA option?

I went from an LG ide dvd burner to an Sata Dvd burner but i feel it burns data a lot faster and takes a lot less in Nero but maybe its some other component speeding it personally i wouldnt go back to IDE. Like Enaberif said the grey cables are the devil. Plus 1 for Sata but i havent run into any issues but i dont do raid or any of that stuff so havent run into those issues.
