This is insane. Blu-ray player/writer from Plextor $$$

NCIX.com - Buy Plextor PX-B900A BLU-RAY Burner 25/50GB 2X DVD+-RW 8X6X16 CDRW 24X16X24 Black Drive W/ SW Retail Box - PX-B900A/SW-BL In Canada.

In my search for a very inexpensive blu-ray optical drive, i came across this one - MY GOD..Has plextor lost there marbles?!?!?!

:shok::shok::shok:

When will they come out with under $50 player/writers? Or at least a player?

Eagle Eye March 31, 2009 11:27 AM

There might of been a time when it was that expensive, but its no longer available anyway.

Plextor IS normally over priced... that being said. Wow. Perhaps they moved a decimal point by accident? :shok:

Well this is still a silly price but much better:

NCIX.com - Buy LG CH08-LS10 Black BLU-RAY 8X Reader & 16X DVD Writer Combo Internal SATA Lightscribe - CH08LS10.AVBR00B In Canada.

LG CH08-LS10 Black BLU-RAY 8X Reader & 16X DVD Writer Combo Internal SATA Lightscribe $178.00

I suppose I will have to wait. I cannot see reason to spend that kind of money on an optical drive. Really silly that they are so expensive.

Relatively speaking its still new technology so its always expensive. There was a time when CD-RW/DVD-RW were as much, oh and have you looked at what the cost of a single Blu-Ray disc will run you.

they can keep it until it's under a 100:haha::biggrin:

I know..it's crazy. And then they complain on why we dowload this movies instead. I for one can't be bothered to go through the process of downloading a substandard blu-ray movie, then taking the iso onto a Daemon virtual drive, or using isoburn .. after splitting it several times to fit on a few DVDR..or filling up my mini server for playback. I would easyily pay $10.00/movie + $50 for a drive...if they did that then this whole business of illegal downloads would surely slow down substantially.

I've seen bluray readers under $100 a few times. The GCC-H20L HDVD/BD combo drive is usually ~$140 or less. It was only 4-5 years ago when DVD burners were this expensive too.

Heh... IIRC, I paid over $200 for my first ODD (2X CDR not R/W). Give it some time, prices will come down.

you're that old?

kidding.

Yeah, that must've been over a year ago when that writer was available. Though still expensive, I don't think BDR writers are that expensive any more.

Readers, at least, are dropping perilously close to the $100 mark, tempting me to pick one up (but then I realize my PS3 plays blurays)
