Default $300 cheap upgrade! HELP!

Hi!
I need to upgrade my family PC on the cheap. No OC for now...maybe later
I need: Mobo, CPU, Ram and 1 HDD. Will buy from NCIX and will pricematch to death.hi

I WILL put a spare 8800GTS 640MB in this rig, just because I have it and my daughter will play a little bit of Quake wars ET on it...

I'm an Intel guy so the E5200 looks really tempting (PM at $85)
Decent 2GB kit of Corsair RAM ($32)
MOBO (mATX)...no clue...but I need it cheap, although reliable, that can OC the CPU in the future (possible around the $65 mark???)
Cheap 320GB WD HDD ($55 PMed)

At the same time, I came across the Athlon BE-2400 (cheap but slow) and the 7750 BE (looks half-decent)...
I had AMD before and I realize they're swimming against the current in a river full of shtuff...now at least.
But the 7750 can be PMed for $82...cheaper decent mobos on AMD's side?

I need to buy in around 2 weeks...help!!!

If you want to overclock later stick with the E5200 otherwise go AMD, the E5200 overclocks alot easier then the 7750. as for motherboards...

Gigabyte GA-EG31M-ES2L mATX LGA775 G31 DDR2 1PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 Video Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

Not the greatest but meets the bill and you dont need alot to overclock the E5200, it has a rather low FSB wall that wont stress motherboards to much.

theres also Gigabyte GA-EG41M-S2H mATX LGA775 G41 DDR2 1PCI-E16 3PCI SATA2 Video Sound GBLAN HDMI Motherboard - DirectCanada

Biostar TG31-A7 ATX LGA775 G31 DDR2 1PCI-E16 3PCI SATA2 Video HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

ECS P43T-A2 ATX LGA775 P43 DDR2 1PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

for the low price your not going to get monster clocks out of the CPU but on any of these boards id say you could hit 3.5 ghz or so, if it needs to be mATX (not the greatest for OCing) then

Gigabyte GA-EG31M-ES2L mATX LGA775 G31 DDR2 1PCI-E16 2PCI SATA2 Video Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada

or

Gigabyte GA-EG41M-S2H mATX LGA775 G41 DDR2 1PCI-E16 3PCI SATA2 Video Sound GBLAN HDMI Motherboard - DirectCanada

Try these:

Gigabyte GA-EG31M-ES2L mATX LGA775 G31 $60

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 $90

Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB $75

And for ram, some dirt cheap ones during ncix sale. (under $20)

Copy and paste screw me over, need too double post

I suggest you get the gigabyte g31, its a real solid little board, i did a budget build with it some time ago. Good board with lots of energy saving features. Great for the non overclocker

I would suggest you get a WD 640GB, its the best bang for bucks as far as i know
I have a WD 640 blue and its produce less acoustic compared to a WD black.

With nowadays HD videos they tend to take massive amounts of space, with 640gb you wont have to worry about space for a while

Hes going to eventually overclock. the G41 isnt a bad board for that but it will put you out a little more.

$55 320GB HDD - Check.
$23 2GB Corsair DDR2 - Check.
$90 E5200 - Check.
$62 EG31-M - Check.

Comes to $230 plus tax. If I were you I would spend more money on RAM, maybe extra $40 and get the WD Caviar Black 640GB. Let's see...

There's Patriot 4GB Viper DDR2-800 for $35 after $25 MIR, if you don't mind rebates.

Caviar Black is $90 everywhere you look, $35 more than your original price. The performance rocks however, although I think you'd be better off with 4GB RAM...

$230 plus tax, nice job Imma thats deffinetly a nice setup. If he wants to be able to overclock at all though the G41 board might offer a little more head room, im not sure of the OC potential of the G31.

Well,
Thanks you all for the answers.
Yes 230$ is a good price!

BTW ,we prolly looked at the same RAM, I just don't factor-in the MIR, cause I never budget / buy with the absolute certainty that the money will eventually show up...
I always been lucky with MIR (eVGA, Mushkin) "touching wood", by got a Creative labs one refused...Hopefully I'll get my $20 MIR from my GTX260 Core 216!!!

As for the overclocking, I had the impression that because the E5200 runs on a 800FSB (200 Mhz quad pumped) I could raise the FSB without any issues of "FSB wall", because, the CPU will reach it's max long before the mobo does...correct me if I'm wrong here:
12.5 multi X 200Mhz = 2.5Ghz (nominal clock for E5200)
12.5 multi X 266Mhz = 3.32Ghz( so basically, DDR2 533 would even be enough lol) and probably requiring aftermarket HSF...not sure about increased voltage... might not even be necessary with this gem!
12.5 multi X 333Mhz = 4.2Ghz probably maxing out the chip.

So a decent OC of 3.3 could be reached easily on ANY mobo, using the "really common spec" of 266 X 4 (1066FSB)...

Thanks Squeetard!

I have to check on that mobo. I doesn't support DDR2 800. Not sure if it allows for a little vCore increase...jeez, some mobo even sport a "crippled" PCI-E 16x slot on a 4x bus...

Jeez those mATX are cheap and seems nice, but lots of checking and comparing.

The ASUS P5Q from NCIX comes with "free shipping for entire order"...as I do need a case (Antec 300 me thinks), the $$$ difference is there, but free shipping, especially if you need a case, might very well might pays off for itself.
