Go with the ECS if you can, its the AMD 740 chipset with the SB700, newer chipset and ive never been a fan of the low end nvidia chipsets. the 6100 chipset from nvidia has been around since 2005.

Heres a nice link though, shows the power draw of the platform with the chipset from the ECS.

Im sure low power draw would be a good thing for this computer, save your friends dad as much money yearly as possible.

740g was released last year, pretty much at the same time as the 780g series boards. their basically just a trimmed down version.

You could go with the 6100 to save the $5 or what ever it is, since features arent going to be widely used here, but I think in the long run the 740g would be a better bet.
