I think long time back I posted about my bad incidents with them.
2 DOA"s, then the DOA replacements wouldn't work right, wouldn't burn anything properly (with there tech support, I went through firmwire updates to using different types of CD/DVD's etc etc) all for nothing.
Perhaps though, I was just a one off.
I know they make good TV's and good Washer and Driers (I have both Ironically).
Just bad luck with the Optical Drives.
I converted to my Samsung w/Lightscribe and I haven't looked back!

I've got 2 lg's, bought around the same time, both have stopped burning -r cd or dvd. They burn +r no problem but error out on every -r disc. Did the firmware update route, no dice.

I wouldnt call it off topic, we are trying to decide what DVD writers to recommend him =) honestly I like the build as stated with the few sudgestions pointed out though, that kind of a rig would make me jealous =P I think im going to pick up another 640 black one of these days for raid 0 thanks to this thread. My advise on the subject, pioneer or samsung.

He wants no part of a community that treats him like this. A community that gets jealous of a system he has yet to order a single part for.

Only drives I've bought in the past 5-6 years have all been LG. Not because I am a fanboi but because they are the cheapest generally. Only one I had die was an GCC-H20L that I broke the tray off by accident.
