Default New Build (i7)

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Moderate Gaming and multitasking

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

1500 $ cdn

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.

dont care

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

Already have monitor, keyboard, DVD drive and mouse

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Yep, moderatly on air

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Like NOW !!!

Here's the system:

Intel Core i7 920 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 2.66GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 4.8GT/S
$409.99

ASUS P6T X58 ATX LGA1366 DDR3 3PCI-E16 PCI-E1 2PCI CrossFire SLI SATA2 GBLAN Motherboard
$309.99

XFX Radeon HD 4850 625MHZ 512MB 1.99GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card
$209.99

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM 32MB Dual Proc 3.5IN SATA Hard Drive OEM 5YR Mfg Warranty
$105.11

Corsair 550W
$90

G.SKILL F3-10666CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24 Triple Channel Memory Kit
$134.09

Coolermaster CM 690 Mid Tower Black ATX Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT No PS Front USB Sound Firewire & eSATA

How is this Build ?

How would it compare to a cheaper X3 720 BE build ? (performance, longevity)

Hi- welcome to HWC! It's a good build except you're paying too much fo rthe i7 and 4850- where are the prices from? You can get ddr3 1600 ram for the same price:
NCIX.com - Buy G.SKILL F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 9-9-9-24 Triple Channel Memory Kit - F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ In Canada.

Here's a 4870 for about the same price:

NCIX.com - Buy Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 PCI-E 2XDVI-I Video Card - 11133-03-20R In Canada.

You should also get an aftermarket cooler to get decent overclock.

Here`s a better PSU deal too- more juice
NCIX.com - Buy Corsair TX650W 650W ATX 12V 52A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan - CMPSU-650TX In Canada.
