Default Noob, wants to upgrade current PC to play games

Well, the title says it. My computer is getting old and crappy and I need to upgrade it abit. I've never done anything with computer upgrading but I think I'd like to try it out. I was originally planning on building a whole new computer but I wondered if my current one was upgradeable. I downloaded a program and it told me what my computer had. Please tell me if you guys need more info.

I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a specific parts list. I would really appreciate it. I'm hoping to play games like Battlefield 2 and Left 4 Dead.

Thanks so much!

EDIT:

Quote:
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Games and internet browsing
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1000, doesn't really matter.
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
I'm not a fanboy :P
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Anything in my current pc
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
I've been watching this 22 part video thing on YouTube on how to make computers, thats what got me into trying this out.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Just default
8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
In a month or two?

+1 Unfortunately there isn't really any part that worth keeping(maybe the floppy and cdrom, but they are so cheap nowadays). 1000$ can get you a decent new computer imo. What game and what video quality are you trying to achieve?

Yeah nothing really worth saving there. Sorry.

Since I find Newegg the easiest to find things on, everything is from there. Might be cheaper at NCIX/Direct Canada/Best Direct.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
ASUS P5Q Pro
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
XFX HD-485X-YDDC Radeon HD 4850 XXX 512MB
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R
PC Power & Cooling S75CF 750W
Antec Three Hundred

Comes to $1000.26 however you'd have to add tax/shipping as well...

Definitely would run L4D and BF2 flawlessly on high settings unless by some chance you have like a 30" LCD.
