Default Nice little rig - Upgrade from a p2

Mornin'!

Im helping out a friend to build him a better computer. I will be a huge upgrade for him since hes going all the way from a p2.

This right will be for casual gaming. Actually, the only game he plays is farcry2. If you followed my last topic, we deceided to go for a AMD 4830 video card which should be more than enought for farcry2 and any other game he would like to play.

Parts we can reuse:
OS
Monitor
Mouse/keyboard/speakers
IDE dvd R/W
Old beige metallic ugly case
Power supply (I did not see it, it could be good enought or not. The 4830 requires a 450W from what I heard.)

What he wants:
Video Card :AMD 4830
Motherboard : anything that will work, integrated or not, cheaper the better.
(I wanted to buy a 120$ crossfire board but he says that he wont need the extra video card slot. It would be good for futur upgrades but he dosnt have much money so..)
HDD: more than 80GB, cheaper the better.
Ram 2-4GB, cheaper the better.
CPU: dual core, anything that is the best kick for the buck.

Budget around 400$.
Buying as soon as possible.

Its quite an hard one again. Most people dont want to spend much money but yet they want something strong... its quite paradoxal... Anyways, I know that this guy spent alot of time getting that much money aroung, hes far from rich...

If you have any idea, please let me know!

I'll post what I find soon :)

On the intel side u have the E5200 $88 and on amd side x2 6000 3.1ghz was $85 or amd kuma 2.7ghz $91ish then just build around what ever u pick. There are budget mobos in the 50-60$ range, 2x2GB ram 50-60$ and 500GB sata hdd is fairly low cost these days also look at 250GB hdds.

First of all, look on the side/top of the PSU and look for its maximum output in watts. If it says 450W, than you should be just fine, but if it's like 400W's then don't even think about trying to stretch it, I made that mistake one time.

Assuming that you have a good enough PSU, I put together a list of parts here, one AMD and the other Intel:

AMD Build:

Mobo: ECS 780G AM2+/AM3 - $92
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 5400+ - $76
RAM: G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 - $52
Video Card: XFX 4830 - $125 after $10 MIR,
OR: Powercolor 4830 - $102 after $20 MIR
HDD: WD 320GB SATAII 7200RPM - $57

TOTAL: $379 + Tax & Shipping

Intel Build:

Mobo: Gigabyte EP43-DS3L - $98
CPU: E5200 - $89
RAM: GSkill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 - $52
Video Card: XFX 4830 - $125 after $10 MIR
OR: Powercolor 4830 - $102 after $20 MIR
HDD: WD 320GB SATA II 7200RPM - $57

Total: $398 + Tax & Shipping

EDIT: Note that if you end up needing a PSU, tack on an extra $65 for This 500W one from Memory Depot. If you don't know who MD is then just pricematch it at NCIX.

I can almost guarantee you will need a new PSU regardless of wattage. The older PSU's are 20pin ATX instead of 24 and did not have a 4 pin CPU power cable.
