2600xt is barely any better...

splurge on a 9600gt, if you are gonna spend 60 you might as well spent 100 and get something that works...

Well, the XFX is already in there, I got it for $35 brand new so...
If I upgrade the VC, then no coin for the CPU, and thats were the bottleneck is going to be, hence my CPU / RAM questions up top.

And, suprisingly enough, my 2600 does very well for what I use it for.
Sure, its not the best, but we build what we can afford after all...

My biggest fear, is putting a overpowered card into a case that has next to zero ventilation.

I CPU Cooler, Passive PS cooling, and 1 80mm at the rear.

Something tells me, I'll melt it...

CPU isnt going to bottleneck a 9600gt or similar, they are a decent dual core chip, my 2180 beches really closely in 3dmark to my 6750.

heat is a consideration, but there are cards that vent out the back, which helps you twice.

Haha, just posting to tell you there is no such thing as a 'cheap wife upgrade'.

I can always give it a shot, I just don't think a 1.8gHz CPU is going to be up to the task. We shall see...

I keep reading it as

Funny how the meaning changes when you move the comma.
