My System Specs

Default need help on what to choose

i have sold my current motherboard and CPU, and i am looking for new stuff, i have a budget of about $500-700 for the end of the week, and around $1000 for the end of next week. i don't want to spend that much but if i get a great deal i just might spend it. i would prefer to buy new but used is ok, as long as the warrenty is transferable. board can be either amd or intel and sli is perferd. i have a 4x1gb of 1066 ram and a 9600gt i would like to grab another 9600gt for sli. i can only buy from somewhere that accepts paypal or is in the frazer vally.

i saw this on ncix and would like to know what u think.
NCIX.com - Buy NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal EVGA 790I Ultra Motherboard & 4GB DDR3-1866 RAM -UNASSEMBLED - eVGA-790i-Ultra In Canada.
and use this for a cpu
NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad Core Processor LGA775 2.66GHZ Yorkfield 1333FSB 6MB Retail Box - BX80580Q9400 In Canada.

anything opinions would be great and if you guys could help me get the best bang for my buck. as i said above i would like to get just the cpu and motherboard but if there is a deal on a mobo that takes ddr3 and a deal on ddr3 then i might make the switch.

and thanks to all who can help me.

DDR3 is not worth the investment with Core2Quad architecture. I suggest you get a 750i board and that C2Q, and keep your ram as well. Those 9600GT's will run without a hitch in x8/x8 SLI.

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA Nforce 780I SLI Ftw LGA775 ATX 3PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 2PCI SATA2 RAID Sound GBLAN 1394 Motherboard - 132-YW-E178-A1 In Canada.

This board does x16/x16 SLI, but it's hella more money that the 750i.
But honestly Kyle, for $1000 you can go to an i7 CPU/MOBO/DDR3 system. Save your coin for a bit.

NCIX has a combo of an i7 920 and an EVGA X58 mobo for $820, then you just need to add on some DDR3 RAM: NCIX.com - Buy NCIX Gaming Bundle Deal EVGA 3-WAY SLI X58 Motherboard Intel Core i7 920 CPU - eVGA-X58-i920-GAMES In Canada. Use the "compare prices" link at the top of the page to find a price match for the components.

EDIT: If you want to save a little money you could buy used from the Buy/Sell link, that's a good price.

I say sell the 9600GT and the 4X1GB RAM and get a GTX260 Core 216 or XFX 4870 to game on your 24". It'll be WAY better than 9600GT in SLI, and you'll be able to overclock better and place less stress on your NB by using 2X2GB RAM. The following is what I'd recommend.

Intel Core 2 Q6600 or E7200/E7300
ASUS P5Q Pro or Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
WD or Seagate 640GB
OCZ Vendetta 2
Corsair HX620
Corsair/OCZ/Patriot/Mushkin/G. Skill 2X2GB RAM kit at DDR800 or above. If at DDR800, make sure it's 4-4-4-12 timings

I assume you'll be overclocking, hence why that CPU and motherboard. You'll be able to achieve great things with that setup.

Don't forget to pricematch and wait for the new sales from NCIX.

It's a bit late in the game to be getting those, as I learned from some other guys on this forum it's not quite worth it to go 45nm over the 65nm Q6600. Clock for clock, you get more performance, but only by a fairly small margin, and a fairly high price. Some (actually most) C2Q 9xxx go for as much, if not more than an i7 920. If you already got the motherboard and RAM or whatever, then by all means, buy a Q9450/9550 :D
