Default Build for friend AMD or Intel

Hi, my friend ask me to made him a computer that will be futur proof (i know no computer is futur proof) because my friend doen't change or upgrade is pc very often. He will maybe change is video card in 1-2 years but it'll be he is only upgrade he will made on this pc. He will mostly play on this computer. His budget is 1000$. When he asked me to made is computer I have made a Intel build with a e8400 but after that I remember that AMD have lauched their Phenom II and after some reading I think he will be better with a Phenom II but I want your opinion because i don't really know much about AMD and if it's really is best option.

This is the builds I have made for him.

Intel :
Boitîer : Coolermaster CM 690 86.40$
CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 199.85$
CPU Heatsink : OCZ Vanquisher 18.21$
Motherboard : Asus P5Q-Pro 149.99$
Carte Vidéo : XFX Radeon HD 4850 197.47$
RAM : Mushkin HP PC2-6400 4gig 54.19$
Disque Dur : Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 87.59$
Power Supply : Corsair TX650W 650W 114.97$
DVD Writer : LG GH22LS30 29.91$
Total without taxe : 938.58$

AMD :
CPU : Phenom II X4 920 227.39$
Motherboard : Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 127.44$
The rest is the same thing
Total without taxe : 943.57$

He will never OC, the cpu heatsink is for the silence.

And will i need an old am2 cpu to upgrade the bios for the phenom II to work?

That looks good. My 2 cents is go with the quad core for the future. I believe you can get the video card in the $180 range these days. Consider this MB Gigabyte MA790GP-DS4H for the better SB750 chip set.

With that said I've priced out a system with a Phenom II 940 and a 4870 1GB for myself this week and it came to $1050. See my thread

My vote would be for the quad as well. Its been a while since one could recommend AMD. Mushkin is great ram but you may want DDR2 1066 with the phenom II? I'm not certain... Also have you considered one of neweggs combos? Something like this
Newegg.ca - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
About the same price your going to pay but a bit better board?

+1 for Quad-Core Phenom II X4, it will be closer to futureproof as a comptuer can get.

Thank you guys for your opinion, i'll say to him to go with AMD. For the video card he play on a 22" monitor i think a 4870 1gig is a little overkill for this resolution.
