Building a new PC, and i need help with some things
 

:help:hey guys. im going to build a computer in the next month. i need to know a couple of thing:

EVGA nvidia GTX 295 Plus:thumb:

6GB of DDR3 1333MHz (overclocked to 1600MHz)

EVGA X58 motherboard

Antec truepower quattro 1000W PSU (will this be enough for everything?)

Core i7 920 (want to overclock to 3.8) (how may i go about doing that?) (whats a good after market cooler for that clock and higher?)

Antec 1200 full tower case


My main use for this computer is gaming, is there anything i need to change?

Instead of the Antec power supply get either the Corsair or Ultra 1000W. The Ultra is currently on sale at Tiger Direct. For the case take a look at the HAF. Great price along with great quiet cooling and tons of room for hiding cables. Don't get a GTX 295 unless you have a 24 inch or more monitor.

I say Corsair HX620 or HX1000, no Ultra.

Well I think you're fogetting that part of what you're saying is based on personal preference...
But I'll share my knowledge/opinion...

I do agree with crazyhorse that the Coolermaster HAF is far better for cooling and cable management than the Antec 1200 (just got the HAF myself) Although it's kind of worrysome that so many people are buying this case... They're sure to start popping up at LAN parties.

The only other thing I could suggest would be to change the vid card. It pains me to say it, but right now ATI's ahead in the game (no punn intended :haha:) when it comes to gaming and GPUs. A nice one to go with would be the ATI 4870x2. About the same price as the 295 plus and it out-performs it too.

Excellent CPU choice... Great bang for buck!

Umm with the RAM make sure to get a brand name (especially if you intend to OC it) You'll thank yourself later :thumb: Corsair or OCZ are good ones to go with. G-Skill's another good one.

Cannot comment on this PSU as I have no experience with it nor have taken the time to "Google" it...I however have found so far that my Corsair HX 1kW has been satisfactory running 280 SLI config
The same CPU I just ordered...no idea or guarentees on OC, although as yourself I have read many getting popsitive results with this choice, personally I'm hoping for around 3.6 - 3.8 Ghz, anything more will be a bonus! EDIT: Went with the Thermaltake 120....$75 DC
Supposed to be very good for cooling and that is the main objective right?!
Anything that provides adequate cooling and room to work, as well as "nice to the eye" is what I'm after....hence the Silverstone!

In Geokillas defense, perhaps a budget??? That will help determine Case, GPU etc.....

Ummmm...just wondering where you got this info from...?...the Reviews I saw here said otherwise, besides...$700 + for a 4870 x2 when the GTX 295 is available for $500+ or better yet the GTX 280 for $349 - $400.....uh...you better do a little more research their Pard!

The GTX is cheaper by about $100 or so....my mistake, but it does outperform the 4870x2 in most Game Benches...

Maximum PC mag. gave the preferred choice to the 4870 x2 over the GTX 295...

After getting the 4850 I have to say, I'm quickly becoming an ATI fan :biggrin:

Anyway, to put the subject back on thread topic, I would suggest getting the gtx 280... It's at a smokin' price right now and apart from numbers and benchmark results, you won't notice much difference in game.

guys, the RAM brand im getting is G-skill, or OCZ. and i have a 45-inch Samsung HDTV as a monitor. how much ram would i need to overlcock CPU too 3.6-3.8 GHz. How am i supposed to overclock anyway? what steps do i need to take, and what do i need to do on that EVGA motherboard
