Default Gaming Computer

Hey everyone:

I have heard this is the place to go for custom build opinions. I am an avid gamer that knows little about building computers or what parts are needed. My current computer was built for me but I'm gonna give a go at building this one. My only real stipulation is I would like this computer to keep up with the gaming development for roughly 3 years 2009-2012. Computer Case style does not matter to me so long as it keeps cool inside ( don't care if its pink, would prefer not tho )

1. Tasks - Gaming and Video Editing

2. Budget - No Limit ( whatever it costs )

3. What country - Canada

4. Brand Preference - Whatever is best

5. Current Parts - They are obsolete starting from fresh

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads. - Yes i have read similar topics but they usually have a cost limit

7. Overclocking - No, not familiar enough with the procedures

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? Immediately, but willing to wait for new 2009 parts if required

I was kinda thinking something like this:
  • Core i7 940 Extreme - 3.2GHz
  • Dual ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
  • 6GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
  • RAID-0 256GB SSD
  • Vista OS 64 bit ( maybe ) I'm more familiar with XP and it seems more stable
but I am unsure whether Nvidia or ATI is better
