My System Specs

Default Boxing Day Build/Upgrade

Hello,

Im currently running an AMD 64 6000+ 3.0ghz CPU on a ASUS M2N-E SLi board.
I am mainly a gamer (RTS, RPG and FPS) but I do a lot of video/TV watching through my system.
I am looking to upgrade to a new CPU as mine is fast but outdated (I believe)

My budget for the whole build is around 800 bucks,
What I am looking at is an EVGA 790I Ultra SLI - $405 at NCIX
Trying to find a CPU thinking a INTEL Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz

But should I be looking at a quad core? or perhaps the i7?
I really want a system that is strong and will blast through most games!
Also one that has some lasting power, im not an overclocker (as Litotech can assure you! )
Also Vista or XP Sp3 (which I have)

I would say go for the i7, specially if you really want to spend 400 $ on a mobo. There is no point in buying the 790i ultra over the x58 current crop. Now the cpu is going to cost you more, but you will gain by having a ''newer'' technology. Ram wise 790i is DDR3 so you'll need new ram....

Anoterh really good solution, is to stay with the E8400 buy a way cheaper mobo, specially if you dont want to overclock go for a cheap but decent intel chipset, unless you want to sli.

Are any games having difficulties to be played ?

Do you play games that much to consider that eVGA board? Considering some i7 bundles, I would personally go towards that direction.

No none of my games are having problems, but looking in the future at Empire: Total War, Starcraft II, etc.
I am thinking that my MOBO/CPU are a little outdated, am I out to lunch on this one???

The i7's I can only get a 2.3 or so for the same price as a 3.33 Dual core
will the games im running have problems with a new but slower core?
(Currently most only use one core correct? And upgrading most of the cores sit idle???)

That should run pretty good and be on top even a decent system for a couple years.

Thanks, I sure hope so.
Once they drop a little bit I want to pick up a set of 3x2Gb Corsair Dominator's or perhaps MUSHKIN Redlines in DDR3 once they come out.
I also want to see what the new 200 series look like this year!
Ill be uploading a build log once everything is here!
