Default Question about reusing parts

Hey guys, I feel like a douche asking all these questions about custom builds and not actually buying things. If your annoyed just ignore me :D

anyways, I have these old pc's sitting around in my basement. My dad came home with them one day, he bought em for 50 dollars a piece and thought he so so clever. Well of course i knew they were old and shate (hes a stubborn and easily offended old fashioned kinda person, and I can never tell him he got ripped offed without him getting hostile).

So here are these 2 or 3 computers, that no one has ever touched since he bought them 3 years ago (I wouldn't be surprised if they were already 5 years old at the time he bought them) so they could be like 5-7 years old in total.

My question to you fellas and ladies is do you think I could reuse the case and MAYBE (probably not, a good idea from what i've read around here) the PSU? I read abit about cases and form factors and I believe it is an atx case :)

So would I beable to use atleast the case? or would cooling demands now be much greater than they were before and the case not have sufficient airflow for a modern build? Or could the ATX-Form factor have evolved a bit over time?

I'm planning to take some photos of the insides and outsides of the computers to show if you want. I'll take a photo of the serials and shiat too

Have a look at the plugs on the PSUs. Best bet is that they don't even have a 4 pin CPU plug let alone an 8.

In all honesty.... I save PCI vid cards for faultfinding, PCI soundcards if they're at least Live 5.1 or better, HDDs above 30 gig, and CD burners. The rest gets scrapped, but I do grab whatever screws off of the cases I can get.

As to the usefulness of the cases.... you'd have to post up a few pics. I've used some of the older generic beige cases recently (did an overclocked 3G P4 in one last month), but I modded the top of the case with a couple of blowhole fans to wick off the heat.

Before you do any of that though.... see if you can boot them into bios to find out what they are... P4 2G+ systems still list for over $100 as internet browsing machines so you might get some cash out of them if they're higher end than you thought. Don't be surprised though if you find yout they're original P1s or worse..... :)

lol i don't think I have anything worse than a p1 haha

I just came back the 2 pcs my dad bought randomly and out of the blue are compaq deskpro pcs it says celeron mmx400 on the side of em.

theres another pc that i remember from when i was reaaally young, (first pc i ever had) Its a p2. I remember opening it when i was little, and the processor loaded in like a pci card LOL. The processor kinda reminded me of a sega cartride, the one sonic and knuckles cartridge that you could piggy back the regular sonic ontop of to use.

I've also got my old pc, a 2.4ghz celeron that I gave to my brother. Its his main computer but I might consider chopping it up and using it, if it saves me money on a case hehehe. Or maybe I won't since its still fully functional. How much do you guys think a 2.4 ghz celeron would go for? its got a radeon 9250 powercolor that i put in it a long while back. shiet cant even run halflife 2

On kijiji you might get $150 - $200 (that's on a good day) provided you can come up with at least a 17" monitor and keyboard/mouse. There's a big gap between what folks want to pay for an internet browser, and what a new low-end machine would cost.

AFAIK, a 3G P4 tower goes for close to $300 at one of the larger local shops here in moncton.
