Default $700(w/taxes) rig - Christmas present for a friend.

Hi everyone, I'm building a PC for my friend and his family and I need some quick help to make sure quailty and budget is a top priority. It's for a small family that will be using it for surfing, homework, movies, and gaming. I am buying off DirectCanada.com so make sure any of your suggestions of parts are available on the DirectCanada.com website.

So far my list is as follows:

Tower:
Case: Logisys CS-51WBK
Motherboard: EVGA Nforce 610I
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200
RAM: Corsair Value Select PC2-5300 2X1GB DDR2-667
HDD1: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB
Floppy1: Scythe YD-8V08
DVD1: Lg GH22NS30

Accessories:
Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 953BW 19IN Widescreen
Speakers: Cyber Acoustics CA-2016WB
Keyboard: Logitech Classic Keyboard 200
Mouse: OCZ X-750
Printer: Lexmark X2470

So far this has come to $651.64. Should I take out, put in, or exchange some parts? If you want you can create a whole new list, making sure it stays within $700 w/taxes.

Thanks,
Mike

i'd save the $28 and drop the floppy drive, haven't used one in years myself. other than that, looks good for under $700 w/tax and monitor.

Will the GF7050 be sufficent for gaming, like Crysis or Call of Duty 4?

maybe cod2, but cod4 and crysis will be way to laggy to play (if at all). i read that its comparable to a geforce 6600. if you want to play those games (especially crysis) you'll have to spend a bit extra on a graphic card.

What video card can I get for $100>? If at all possible I will change around some parts in order to get them the video card, it's more important than anything else.

In your price range I would seriously consider picking up a $600 special at one of the big box stores. Just ensure that it's got an open PCIe slot and you'll be able to drop in a sub $100 vid card.

Thumbs up

Tower:
HIS Radeon 4670 ICEQ3 750MHZ 512MB GDDR3 $106.21
Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 mATX AM2 GF6100 NF430 $60.20
Amd Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual Core Processor Socket AM2 2.6GHZ $75.19
Corsair Value Select PC2-5300 2X1GB DDR2-667 $28.61
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB SATA2 7200RPM $48.55
Logisys CS-51WBK Black ATX Tower $41.47
Liteon DH-20A4P DVD+-RW $27.54

Accessories:
Logitech SBF-90 Black Optical Wheel Mouse USB $8.83
Logitech Internet 250 Usb Keyboard $10.74
Cyber Acoustics CA-2016WB 2 Piece Desktop Speakers $6.65
Lexmark X2470 ALL-IN-ONE Color Inkjet Printer $38.88

Acer X193WB Black 19IN Widescreen LCD Monitor 1440X900 $156.45

Payment Detail:
Shipping & Handling $0.00
Insurance $9.44
Environmental Fee $20.00
Sub Total $629.32
GST(5%) $31.94
No PST - Outside BC residents $0.00 (bad thing if you're in BC)
Total $670.70

Someone step in and correct me if the matx board and the atx case is a problem or if the 4670 is too much for the 480W psu included with the case.

There's some room to play with the components. You could try a bigger hdd, a slightly better version of the same motherboard, a better video card if your willing to go very close or over the $700 with mail in rebates, better mouse/keyboard... most things have a +$10 to +$30 better. You could squeeze a little more money for slightly better stuff if you nix the shipping insurance or step down to a 4650/9500gt or something lower then $100.

This was interesting.

I have to admit, that was one total and complete post to nail it so close to $700.
I like this, and couldn't add to this thread in any better way.
It might be pushing it on the PS then again, you might be safe.

Woah guys, thanks for the help. This is not a surprise present for the mother of the family, I will show her what she can get for $700 and tell her about going with a boxed PC.
