My System Specs

Default Encorp's X58 build.

Well, I'll be honest. I'm dying to get this build going.

I've been holding out for some better memory kits; mainly waiting for some Mushkin's to drop on Canadian etailers.

Here is what I'm going with.

Processor:

Intel i7 965 EE

NCIX.com - Buy Intel Core I7 Extreme 965 Quad Core Processor LGA1366 3.2GHZ Bloomfield 8MB LGA1366 6.4GT/S - BX80601965 In Canada.

Motherboard:

Trying to decide between an Asus P6T and a Rampage II X58

NCIX.com - Buy ASUS Rampage II Extreme ATX LGA1366 X58 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 PCI CrossFire SLI Motherboard - Rampage II Extreme In Canada.

NCIX.com - Buy ASUS P6T X58 Deluxe ATX LGA1366 DDR3 LGA1366 3PCI-E16 PCI-E4 CrossFire SLI SATA2 SAS Motherboard - P6T Deluxe In Canada.

Reason I'm not sure, they have similar enough performance and I'm not sure I truly need all the features on the Rampage II.

Or, I may about turn and go for the EVGA X58. Hmm!

Memory:

6gb of Mushkin something!! lol

This is still pending! I'm not moving on this until I see those Redlines and Ascents released.

Video:

Keeping my two 8800GT Akimbo's for a short while. I am tempted to grab a 260 216, like the BFG or an EVGA but I'd like to wait a bit and see what else drops. Plus these cards work fine for now.

Case:

My Modded Cosmos S from here:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...s-project.html

PSU:

Just going to use my Corsair TX750. Will be more than enough!

Budget:

Intel i7 965 EE - $20.000 - Free!!
MB: 375.00 - 450.00
Ram: 300.00 - 500.00
Case: Already Have
PSU: Already Have
CPU Cooler: 30.00 ish?? (for a 1366 bracket for TRUE Black)

Total: 980.00+Tax/Shipping

Total I'm willing to spend is about a grand, cheaper the better of course!

An Intel i7 965 EE for FREE!?!?!

I would personally go with the P6T

Haha I honestly wish. I really would hook anyone up if I could but my good friend at Intel would kill me if I tried to score that much product LOL. I'm VERY lucky to get the things I do, especially considering what I do get comes out of what he can take for himself!

Edit: Typo in "honestly".

I'm pretty sure that hardly anybody actually NEEDS the extras offered by the R2E, but that's often beside the point. Even the lower-end X58 boards are pretty powerful beasts, and the P6T seems to have all the power circuits and construction of it's bigger brother. Where budget is concerned, I'd go for the P6T and set the money saved aside for graphics cards in the future.

Consider me another vote for the P6T, very few people will make use of the R2E features.

I'm sure you've read my rants against the R2E in other threads here.

The P6T sure looks like a nice board.

I'm not a fan of the RIIE either.
