I'm going to slowly upgrade my computer swapping out the old with the new and my first step is the motherboard. My specs frorm my old computer are:
Mboard: Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless
Cpu: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000 AM2 2.6 Ghz
Hdrive: Western Digital 150Gb 10,000 Rpm
Vcard: Evga nvidia Geforce 7950 GT
Memory: Crucial Ballistix DDR2 8500 2Gb

like i said I'm would like to start with my Mboard then Video card (9800 gtx+) then CPU. Can someone suggest a Mboard, I'm not looking to do SLI.

Please note that I am not a pro :)

I noticed that many, many people who uses AMD processors are going for this :
NCIX.com - Buy XFX Nforce 750A SLI Socket AM2+ ATX 2XPCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI SATA HDMI Video Sound GBLAN Motherboard - MDA72P7509 In Canada.

The price is nice, it has sli and its good for future upgrades.

With the new AMD quads just around the corner, and the issues AMD has had over the last little while with AM2 compatabilities I'd recommend waiting until the dust settles on that front. If the ultimate goal is to replace almost everything, you might be better served to bank the money until you can buy a processor + motherboard together in order to assure full compatability.

I just replaced my old ASUS M2R32-MVP with a DFI 790FXB-MRSH with the new SB750. 2 months later and I am extremely happy.

For the record the AM2 issues not socket related it was poor VRM choices on the part of some board companies. It had to do with the phase controllors, DFI boards never had the issue, and neither did my MR32-MVP, it could take a 140w Phenom. The issue with the MR32 was the bIOS upgrade to allow that processor turned off the 2nd PCIE slot, because ASUS can't make a good BIOS to save their lives. 2 out of my last 4 boards have been ASUS, never again. I gave them chance two and I was once again disappointed.

My board is AM2+ if you are not in a hurry can waut for the RD800 chipset and AM3.

I agree wait for the AM3 CPU's and Boards plus the NEW AMD chipsets.

By the way, AM3 chips can be run in a AM2+ board, so you can buy RD700 now, use that all ready purchased DDr2 with your hard earned money and move up to RD800 and DDR3 at a later date.

Its all about flexibilty.
