Nice find!

That would be -$71 off my low end totals for:
$861 P6T Deluxe system
$981 Rampage II system
Oh yeah, we getting there!

WoW, my heads spinning. I wouldnt buy anything yet until theres competition. These are PC hardware compnonents. There arent super weps LoL. There will be price drops, and the i7 hasnt even been superclocked. Basically, this is all really old military tech from 20 years ago. They are milking us with little increments. And these little increments are soo small, you wont even notice any performance increase with out sophisticated measuring technology. Soo, wait another gen for i7 and it will be a major upgrade.

Yup... looking forward to this wednesday.

I am really curious how much the CPUs will drop by xmas. Will Intel stick to their guns because it is an uncontested product, or will they drop the prices to entice more people to take the plunge?

The mobos should come down with maybe some MIRs, and the ram will certainly fall over time as well as with MIRs.

It'll be very interesting to see what this will cost in mid to late December.

You can scrape a few more bucks off that price, but the places with those prices often don't have them in stock yet.
Another great price combo! Thanks for doing your own total!

Good point about stock -- lets just say for now that advertised price is the king, and it doesn't matter if the part is in stock or not. Simply because for the next while these things will be flying off the shelf, and often going out of stock. If someone were to visit this thread in two weeks, I would guess that most of our links will be dead or out of stock.

Ugh, you missed my post pointing out it's not the Rampage II Extreme, it's the original Rampage Extreme which is very different.

No offence... but this isn't about performance or benchmarks. I am sure some would argue that point, but that discussion belongs in another thread. This is about cost to get into the new tech as it is being released. For here, all I want to do is monitor prices and the minimum cost to get into an i7 system.

Yeah, I hear ya! It isn't too bad though, when I think about it. $1K isn't a lot to be on the cutting edge -- although it would be a lot more with an Extreme CPU.

Keep an eye on this thread in the next weeks, you may see this initial cost drop significantly. At least, we hope!

Again, this thread is all about current costs, and not pros and cons about taking the plunge. But maybe a little discussion on the point is worthy because there really isn't any other threads here on the topic.

Personally, unless I run into a windfall, I probably won't be getting any i7 upgrades till maybe next summer at the earliest. I tend to agree with you on this, yet the argument is if you keep waiting for the next gen, you will never upgrade.

What is really holding me back is the fact that I need a new mobo and ram to use an i7. Otherwise, the upgrade would be a lot simpler.

OTOH, even though current Q9xxx CPUs will fit my mobo socket, they are completely incompatible... so having to upgrade the mobo is a necessary evil for me even though the socket is the same. My only choices are to get an older quad (got a Q6700 on the way) or the newer E8xxx dual cores.
