Default Upgrade time. My AGP butterchurn must go!

Greetings folks.
Figure now that i am aware of this little gem of a site i should use it. I have been running an antiquated agp comp for ages, taking mobo hand me downs, as it is now damn near impossible to get agp boards anymore. i can hold out no longer. this old thing is dieing a slow painful death so i am taking it out back of the proverbial woodshed.

my knowledge of new systems and technologies is weak at best. after doing a little reading here and help from Braineater i have come up with 3 possible builds. i have always been an ATI / AMD guy but am willing to shed that in favour of an Intel / nvidia rig and of course cash is an issue.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. here they are:

1.
PSU - PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad Power Supply
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L w/ DualDDR2 1200, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, PCI-E 2.0 x16
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7200 2.53GHz w/ 3MB Cache
GPU - eVGA e-GeForce 9600GT Super Clocked 512M PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDTV-Out
MEM - Corsair 2GB XMS2-6400 TWIN2X Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB)
Total = $569.95

2.
PSU - PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad Power Supply
MOBO - Gigabyte EP45-DS3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E (NICX.com)
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E7200 2.53GHz w/ 3MB Cache
GPU - eVGA e-GeForce 9800GT 512MB w/ Dual DVI HDTV-Out
MEM - Corsair 2GB XMS2-6400 TWIN2X Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB)
Total = $620.71

3.
PSU - PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad Power Supply
MOBO - Gigabyte EP45-DS3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E (NICX.com)
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8200 2.66GHz w/ 6MB Cache
GPU - eVGA e-GeForce 9800GT 512MB w/ Dual DVI HDTV-Out
MEM - Corsair 2GB XMS2-6400 TWIN2X Dual Channel DDR2 Kit (2 x 1GB)
Total = $665.71

Prices are from Memory Express in Calgary except for the Gigabyte EP45-DS3L - NCIX.com. I will be checking costs on all these items from NCIX.com and compare. Had never heard of it until today.

part of what is forcing my hand here is the release of Fallout 3. being a recovering Oblivion addict i REALLY want to play this game. from what i have read all 3 of the above rigs will run it. is this correct?

Another thing you may be able to help me out with is cases. After reading up on the vid cards turns out they are freakin' surfboards so my Lian Li PC-65 won't fit them. Might as well keep my old rig so Brain can use it as a folding borg.

thank in advance for your help and cheers.

Gotta say first off welcome and nice looking components. However the 750W is killer overkill. For what you are looking at, a good quality 500W would be more than enough. Perhaps the Corsair VX550? Very silent and very good quality. I would suggest the middle build. With the P45 board, 9800GT and E7200. Great budget combo!

I wouldn't get that 9600, you stated your a AMD/ATI how about a 4850?
Or at the least I would say a 9800gt.
2x2g is where it is at for gaming nowadays IMO any chance of upgrading to a 2x2g kit over the 2x1g kit?

Hey Super isn't this to be in the New Builds section, not in the Guides section. Thanks.

#2 with a 2x2gb ram kit, and as specified the 750W is too much. The Corsair HX620W would be perfect, and is modular.

Don't forget that you're missing a DVD burner, a HSF and a HDD.

I would like to congratulate you on your move to depart from AGP - I've been there once and never ever thought I wuold join the dark side and go with PCIe - but once you do you will be very happy - not that you have a choice anyways - welcome to the dark side! :D
