If he spends it all at Direct Canada then he gets free shipping but he does have to factor in tax. I agree. He should wait and spend save some more money. Hell I'm spending $500 on just the mobo, CPU, Memory and PSU and that's not even top of the line. but I want a mobo with SLI so I'm going to pay around $160-$200 for it. But now I'm wondering if I'm going to need to SLI my 9600GT to game at 1680x1050.

Ouch. See me, when i game, i prefer windowed mode, so i game at low resolutions, so my video card can fully handle all that ;p.
Also in summer a $300 build could have turned something better, but now with the dollar drop alot of the prices skyrocketed, like in some of the local businesses i've seen (summer price for Sapphire HD4850 $203 ... current price .. $251).
So if you really want a good build save up, seeing as how you wanted an HD4850.
Good cheap build imo: E5200 w/ p35/p43 mobo, 2gb pc6400 ram, HD4850 as you specified, and case & psu is up to you, also i noticed in the builds there was no HD included either, so gotta factor that , OS, other stuff too.

thx for all the advice guys, it's incredible how helpful people on these forums can be :D i guess you could consider it kinda pathetic how broke i am right now http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...ilies/clap.gif i've got a ps3 and i've been playing farcry 2 on it and its real annoying because i wish i had a good enough pc to play it on instead of on a console. the main reason i was even considering making a sub 300 pc was just to play a few current titles with a mouse and keyboard, and with mod support. I freakin love mods. Anyway i was only ever planning to game on a 17" monitor anyway, i currently game on my 15.4 inch laptop and this screen seems big enough for me anyway. so i figured cheaping out on a few parts and having a good gfx card would be ok. Also, could someone tell my why my enter button isn't working. I can't create a line break

After you factor in taxes and shipping its going to be more then $300, hell, I am in the process of building a server and it comes to $306 (all on newegg) and it doesn't have a dedicated GPU.

ASRock ALiveNF6P-VSTA AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE / nForce 430 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
OCZ Value Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ26672048VDC-K - Retail
AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz Socket AM2 45W Dual-Core Processor Model ADH4850DOBOX - Retail
Western Digital Caviar SE WD800AAJS 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Rosewill R103A Black SGCC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply - Retail

That's what I get for $306, and it isn't a gaming pc.
And, no I'm not a AMD fanboy, I prefer Intel and always have, though it was cheaper and better (cpubenchmark ftw) going thru AMD and I don't have a problem with them. :D

EDIT: If you really need some parts, you can always check ebay, I don't recommend buying parts off there but if you have to... :)

Get the Antec NSK4480 case which include a Earthwatts 380W (sufficient for a budget build like this) for about 70-75$ ;)

It's been going up the past few days but I doubt retailers will lower their prices accordingly.
