$500 Parts Budget

Need help with some parts regarding my build. I want to be able to play Far Cry 2

Far Cry Recommended System Requirements.
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Family, AMD 64 X2 5200+, AMD Phenom or better
RAM: 2GB
GPU: NVidia 8600 GTS or better, ATI X1900 or better

Budget $500.00

Parts Needed:
Motherboard: SLI cable and overclockable. Nothing insane just to go from say 200 FSB to 333 FSB.
Processor: Intel
RAM: at least 2GB
DVD: SATA, Black.
PSU: Can handle SLI and dual core processor, preferbably Corsair. The OCZ PSU's won't reach from the bottom of my case to the top of my case. CM690.

I already have a 9600 GT and will get another in a few months or so.

I highly suggest you consider 4GB of ram.

This is what I put together off NCIX, I'm sure you could get the price down with a quick pricematch.

Intel E5200 2.5 GHZ -$118.21
Asus P5N-D Board - $170.85
Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 2X1GB - $54.91 - $41.91 after MIR
LG GH22NS30 Black SATA Burner - $36.57
Corsair VX550W power supply - $111.73 - $91.73 after MIR

Total of $492.97.

If you have the funds available I would bump the ram up to 4GB like the G-Skill 4GB PC2-8000 kit for $89.32.

I assume you don't need a viedocard since you have a 9600GT.

Man, have prices ever gone up lately!

BALISTX October 25, 2008 08:20 AM

Prices have gone up.

Direct Canada has the EVGA Nforce 750I SLI LGA775 - $162.69

I don't think the VX550 will be enough for SLI.

Direct Canada has the TX650 for $88.88 after $20 MIR.

BALISTX October 25, 2008 09:01 AM

Here is what I came up with.

Corsair TX650W 650W - $88.88
Corsair TX650W 650W ATX 12V 52A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan - DirectCanada
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 - $107.67
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 Dual Core Processor LGA775 2.5GHZ 800FSB 2MB Retail Box - DirectCanada
EVGA Nforce 750I SLI LGA775 - $162.69
EVGA Nforce 750I SLI LGA775 ATX DDR2 2PCI-E16 1PCI-E1 2PCI SATA RAID Sound GBLAN Motherboard - DirectCanada
LG GH22NS30 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 - $25.99
LG GH22NS30 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL 16X/12X 2MB SATA OEM - DirectCanada
Mushkin EM PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 - $82.01
Mushkin EM PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-18 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - DirectCanada

Total: $467.24

Depends on the PSU. My EliteXStream 800W does, but my ModXStream 600 does not.

VX550 should be enough for SLI'ed 9600GTs, but yeah, the 650 would be the safer bet.

I have an ocz stealthXstream 600w that i payed $80 for 2 months ago, the wires easily reach everything in my antec 900, its a pain having a bottom mounted psu and 2+ sata devices though

I had the exact same PSU and the way I went to route my cables for cable management the cables weren't long enough.
