Default Build for a sick friend

I am looking to build a low budget build for my friend. the reason I want to buy and buid him a computer is because he has Crohn's disease (worst case in Canada sadly) and he is often in and out of the hospital. I want to surprise him with a new computer when he gets out of the hospital again, because he loves to play computer games but his mom doesn't have the money to get him a new PC. My budget is around $500, it's what I've saved up for a new rig for myself, but I think he needs it more. I currently have a case, a Lian Li PC-60B Plus 2 that I can use for this build. I also have a 400W cheapo PSU (Dynex, Best Buy brand) that I can use if I don't need to get anything higher.
I am not familiar with what's good in the lower end stuff, so any help is appreciated.

My Dad died of cancer 3 years ago (direct consequence of his Crohn disease). Good luck to your friend!

A budget gaming build for $500. That's a bit tough...

Do you think you could possibly get some donations from his close friends/family/relatives?

PSU: NCIX.com - Buy Corsair VX450 450W ATX 12V 33A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 120MM Fan - CMPSU-450VX In Canada.
Hard Drive: NCIX.com - Buy Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB SATA2 8.5MS 7200RPM 16MB Cache Hard Drive OEM 5YR MFR Warranty - ST3250410AS In Canada.
DVD-RW: NCIX.com - Buy LG GH22NS30 Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL 16X/12X 2MB SATA OEM - GH22NS30 BLACK In Canada.
Video: BFG GeForce 9800GT OC+ 635MHZ 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out DIRECTX10 Video Card - DirectCanada
RAM: NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-8000 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-1000 CL5-6-6-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - OCZ2P10002GK In Canada.

All that alone comes to $360.95 - $55 in MIRs. Of course, you can probably price match everything down a bit more and that RAM was the cheapest 2x1GB kit I saw on NCIX though there could be better sales.

Motherboard: NCIX.com - Buy Gigabyte EP45-DS3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E 2PCI SATA2 HD Sound GBLAN Motherboard - GA-EP45-DS3L In Canada.
CPU: NCIX.com - Buy Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 Dual Core Processor LGA775 2.5GHZ 800FSB 2MB Retail Box - BX80571E5200 In Canada.

Then that's $240.82 putting you about $100 over...

But like I said, if you get a couple people to throw in $20 or something, you could easily get that $100. And price matching/looking for sales could further lower the price.

Also, you should move fast cause the Canadian dollar keeps dropping and hardware keeps getting more expensive.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend Ipfan4ever and I'm also sorry for your loss Inikurmoma. It's never fun to be sick and of course cancer is a nasty disease (lost two members of my immediate family to it).

I don't know if there is anything that I can do to help your build along at this time, but if I come up with something, I'll let you know. I think it says a lot about you and your friend when you're willing to give up your own new build so that he can have one. Good for you! Take care.

See if you can ask any of his other friends for money. An extra 100 would be quite beneficial. Good luck.

I've sent you a PM and am very thankful for your offer.
The configs you guys put up look pretty nice. Right now I'm trying to get my dad's work to run a donation box for him to help me out, but the problem is that there's already one going for a worker who's child died.
I'm probably gonna drop a little on the video card, maybe a 9600 or whatever's cheap, since that's a big chunk of the money. The NCIX combo deals will probably be the way for me to save some money though.

You hit it right on the spot those combo deals are a great way of saving money ill keep an eye out for those deals u usually will be able to get Motherboard, Video card, Cpu and often those deals aree reallly good. Ram and case can be bought pretty cheap and a used power supply for one of us might be a good deal.
