My roommate and I are thinking about putting together a PC that eventually will be made in to two, but for at least 6 months will be the house PC. Anyway, we are not experts and any advice on our current build would be much appreciated.
As long as you run a single video card it doesn't really matter which brand(ATI/nVidia) you run. All mobo's run ANY single vid card....when you want to run two vid cards...then you have to make a choice....ATI or nVidia? That choice is up to you!

I stand with the already many recommendations its probably in your best interest to shy away from the nVidia chipsets and look to intel chipset and like Prof. Dr. Silver said it doesn't matter about the video card as long as you run a single videocard. Personally this will most likely be my choice when I go intel. ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Given what I have seen here primarily will this computer be used for gaming and are you planning on doing any overclocking?
DDR2 in the flavour of some PC8500 DDR1066 2x2GB either from Corsair, Mushkin or OCZ ultimately whichever suits your budgetary and overclocking needs. Personally I side with mushkin ascents I've heard a lot good things.
Case: Well thats more of a personal decision than anything things to take into consideration are: airflow, cable management and size; full tower or Midtower
Personal recommendations: Antec, CoolerMaster and Silverstone and always leave a little $$ for additional case fans
