Default First Build

Hi All.
It was recommended that I come here and see what everyone thought of the system that I want to build.

So here goes.

Ok...well here is the plan so far.

NCIX.com - Buy Silverstone Lascala LC16B-M Black HTPC ATX Case 1X5.25 1X3.5 6X3.5INT No PS W/ VFD & Remote - LC16B-M In Canada.

Newegg.ca - ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Newegg.ca - HIS Hightech H487F512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Newegg.ca - Intel Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

then...PSU, heatsink...and RAM I'm not 100% on yet.

My budget is what it costs, my only preference for parts is that they are good and good quality for the money spent. I will be using this system for mainly HT but will be doing some gaming as well. And I should have everything bought within the next 30-60 days.

Hmm, i think thats it...

So please, let me know what you think. And if you have suggestions for the remaining parts.

Thanks!

Oh and probably going with a Seagate 1TB HD....

First of all, why are you buying from Newegg? They're overpriced atm compared to NCIX specials.

Second. Answer the sticky please. It'll greatly help us decide what parts you should get for your build.

Sorry, I thought I answered most of the 7 points but here goes...

1. Used for HT stuff, movies music etc, and some gaming WoW, Conan etc

2. Don't really have a specific budget, it costs what it costs, lets say up to...$2200

3. Buying parts from Canada

4. No Brand Preference, I just want good quality for decent money.

5. None

6. Been over at PCForums

7. I will probably do a slight OC but not looking to max the system out.

8. 30-60 days

One thing to keep in mind is the size of components for HTPC cases.
Length of video card, and height of CPU cooler.

I will for sure. I know that the 4870 is going to be a tight fit...I think that I might try the zalman 9500 for the heatsink.

You should all do a better job at making sure the new member gets the best support possible, and that includes doing some research before replying - and forget the sticky, I don't need one to tell you this:

the 4870 / 4850 won't fit inside that case. Nor will the 9800 / 9600 series. Nor will the 200 series.

From Silverstone directly:

Quote:
Due to the center-mounting optical drive design, the space for longer graphics cards are limited to approximately 225mm assuming the optical drive used is 160mm long. The following are the length of the various cards for reference:
AMD Radeon HD 4870/4850 = 235mm
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT/9600GT/GTO = 230mm
NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT = 175mm
AMD Radeon HD 4670/4650 = 170mm

Hmm, well I guess that I need to find another case then. Which sucks cause I really like the looks of that one, and since it will be out on display, it needs to look good...

Thanks for that advice!!

How about the LC17B? It'll fit those cards, still looks ok:

A word to the wise.

NCIX.com - Buy Silverstone Lascala LC17B Black HTPC Case 2X5.25 1X3.5 6X3.5INT W/ 2X80MM Case Fan - LC17B In Canada.
