Default what do you guys think of this deal? qx6850

the guy wants 900$ for it and it was the following specs,

Intel QX6850 3ghz Extreme processor
Gigabyte P35-DS3L Motherboard
OCZ Gold 2x1gb DDR2-800 Memory
Silverstone TJ04B
ATI Radeon 2900XT
Western Digital WD 5000YS 500gb Hard Drive
Antec Neo 550W Power Supply
Windows vista ultimate 64bit

The ram would need upgrading, and since i dont plan on gaming at resolutions above 1280x1024 i dont really care about sli, what im looking for is a pc that can play armed assault no problem.

What do you guys think of this deal?

Thanks,
Roger

personally i think quad extremes are a waste... so if you feel like spending $900 do it.. but I'd say you won't use it for what its intended and best to save yourself $800 and buy a e8400.

He wants 900 for the complete system, not just for the processor

Its an alright deal for what you seem to be wanting to do with it its okay its fair the only things that put me off is not of concern to you as you do not do any high gaming/ and yes you would probably need to buy more ram. :) good luck with the buy welcome to the forum btw

Good price if you slap a good HSF on it, 'cause those suckers dump some much heat...

Not a bad deal...Individually the parts are not worth as much these days but together its a solid deal.

If you figure the 2900Xt is equivalent to a 3870 that $100-$150
Vista Ultimate sell for $220 OEM
Ram is worth $40
Motherboard is not bad $90-$120
The HD is worth - $70
Case and PSU are not great but still worth $100
and the CPU equivelent in a NON extreme is still worth $580 45NM Q9650

I would do it and salvage the parts make a secondary box out of what you don't need or want in your build. But if this will be your primary computer or your first build I would build one yourself out of new parts.

Aside from it being an "out of stock" refurb item that more than likely will never be back in stock? :)

Assuming that the OS is legit on the computer your friend is offering, it's a fairly decent deal. It's got a reasonably good PSU, a nice case, decent (but older tech) vid card, and a great CPU/motherboard combo.

One of the things to keep in mind about any big-box store OS is that it can be a pain trying to transfer the OS over to new hardware if you're buying it just to cannabalize the parts.

I would start a campaign to ban you if you picked the system from best buy (JK). But seriously do not buy Refurb HP products from BB or FS its BS trust me. IF you were buying a computer for your Mom then maybe get the HP sure why not it is a good deal (shutter I hate the D word in electronics retail)...Besides all the crap that comes with a pre built HP/ACER/GATEWAY/DELL and that it only has a 90 warranty. No warranty on solid parts is better then 90 days warranty on a Best Buy computer.
