Default Gaming on USB wireless?

Hello.

I am moving to a new place with free wireless. Will a USB adapter work well for low latency gaming? I would use a PCI card except i have no free space.

Thanks.

It can be done, but you won't have really really low latency. I have done it before (playing LFD2 & BF:BC2) and it's not so bad but I did notice things didn't re-act as fast as they did when I was plugged in with Ethernet. Get a good quality usb wireless dongle and it should be alright for most things.

Currently I'm on a PCI-e wireless adapter, but I gamed on a USB wireless dongle for a few months and I didn't notice any difference compared to a wired or PCI/PCI-e wireless solution. My brother has been gaming on wireless USB for 2+ years without any complaints.

You don't have a free PCI-e 1x slot? That's what most wireless adapters use now.

Thanks for the help guys.

To answer your question, while I do have a slot free, it is obstructed by three huge video cards

I shall buy a usb wireless dongle!

Meh my APU computer has a USB Wireless dongle and works flawlessly when playing online. Heck I play Battlefield 3 with a PCI wireless card and I never had a problem with it.

I've tested playing wireless vs ethernet. Ping wise there's not much differences.

It will become a bigger concern if you combine your gaming with voice chat. (Mumble/TS/Vent) Streaming voice tends to sound robotic over WiFi if your connection's not perfect. Standard gaming should be fine, although you're at a disadvantage in FPS games due to latency.
