Default Best router for me?

My WRT54G with stock firmware is still going but I have a lot of issues. My PS3 gets booted off. If my wife conects with her Kobo it will boot off any other wifi device on the network. If I have too many devices connected (like 3-4) the router throws a hissy fit and I need to unplug it and plug it back in after a minute.

SO... I would really like to get my issues resolved and I am thinking a new router would be a good place to start.

Here's my setup:

I have Shaw cable modem and one desktop PC that's wired to the new router. They are located in the kitchen on the main floor. Pretty much all my wifi devices are on the mail floor too but in the living room. I have:

PS3
Wii
Samsung Smart TV
Laptops
Smartphones
eReader
Tablet
and who knows what else in the future.

Budget: $150

So what would be a really great router for me? If I could stream DVD quality video over wireless from my desktop to my PS3 and/or TV that would be AWESOME!!!! Because I can't do that right now :(

I am hoping to catch something on Boxing Day sale.

Recommendations?

Would getting something like this be worth it for me or just stick to the Rtn16?

The N56 is certainly better than the N16.
If OP wants to spend just a bit more: ASUS RT-N66U Dual Band Wireless N900 Ultra Thin Gigabit Router 2.4/5GHZ
This one has wider range than most routers out there right now and nice hardware as well. Custom firmware is available as well.

I have the N16, and it works great. It's got months and month of uptime and never has an issue. It's got gobs of RAM and upgradable antennas.

The only advantage of the other models is faster WAN to LAN speed, which unless you're on Shaw 250mbit won't affect you on the N16 (it's good for around 150mbit) and the main one is better wifi. If you don't really need the wifi then I'd go with the N16. simply because it's the best router I ever owned.

Your WRT54G is probably limiting you to around the 30 to 40mbit speed, if I recall.

Man, aren't the wireless routers built into modems these days better than G? :P To add to the discussion, my internet almost completely craps out for me when someone in my house does any video streaming, etc. Will a better router help with this or am I better off upgrading my internet connection? :\

Not that I have an answer for you, but are ASUS routers that much better now that there are no other brand suggestions? I ask only because I am keeping my eyes open for a router with better range than my d-link dir-615 and wonder if other brands have similarly competitive offerings or not to the ASUS being recommended. I have never really followed routers.
