Router reccomendations

So we recently upgraded from dsl to cable internet to get a bump in speeds. When I test the internet speed with one computer hooked up directly to the modem, it easily breezes to 50 Mbps down, but when I plug in our old router (an SMC Barricade SMC 7004ABR) and the speed drops to 5 Mbps, at best.

I'm looking for suggestions for a new router that I can drop in and which won't limit our internet.

Here's the current wiring diagram.

The wireless router is a linksys WRT 360N is used as an access point on the 2nd floor since all the other networking equipment is in the basement.

ASUS routers are pretty good.

The 7004ABR is a nice little router, especially if it's had the firmware upgraded. The reason for the low speed on cable is that the SMC WAN port is only 10mbps which bottlenecks the throughput. Any replacement with a 100mbps or gigbit WAN port should solve the problem. For a cost effective commercial product, I've always been fond of Netgear's Prosafe line. My FVS 338 works great.

The Asus RT-N16 will do what you want.... it'll be good for all the abuse you can throw at it and will still do 150mbit

I was pleasantly surprised by the Asus RT-N16 with my parents house. I actually picked one up for our house to replace the 1st gen N AP we have.
