Default Range Extender Help

I just moved in to an apartment that's about 100' from the main house with a wireless router. At the apartment window I can get 4 bars of signal but in the apartment I only get 1 bar that fades in and out. My boss gave me his range extender to use but it has no disc or manual to set it up. It's a D-Link DWL-G710 with a large external antenna attached. The extender was discontinued in 2008 so there is no support from the D-Link site. I was able to download the drivers for it but I need some guidance setting it up as the manual is useless without the quick start guide and I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. Do I need to hook the extender to my laptop with a Ethernet cable and then install the driver?

Thank's 3.0 Charlie. Exactly what I was looking for. For some reason I was getting a 505 error when I tried to download it from D-Link. It only took me 3 hrs to get it running but I have 3 bars throughout the whole apartment now. Thank's again.

I had the same error too, but digging through the ftp worked. Glad to help.

Bars represent absolutely nothing. You can have 5 bars and have really crappy reception.

You need to run a program that will check how many other active APs maybe around and see what your actually reception is like.
