Default Network Card Problems.

Hello,

I was not quite sure whether to put this in the hardware section or here.

My laptop can not connect to the internet via wi-fi anymore. The laptop can detect the connections available but can not connect. There is also an error that pops up saying that there is an unknown device being detected. I assume that this is what is causing my current problem.

I was wondering if there was an easy way to fix this problem?
Can I fix it my self, or do I bring it into shop? How much would that cost?
Should I just get a network adapter(USB) for $40 - $50?
How well do these network adapters usually work?

Thank you for your time,
Charmster

What OS / hardware? Is it all wireless connections, or just your home one? Can other PCs connect wirelessly to the same networks you can't? Does it matter if the network connection is secure / unsecure? Have you tried re-installing the network card drivers? How about changing the name/SSID of your wireless network / password?

Thanks for the quick response.

OS: MS Vista
HW: HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop. (Not sure if I can post links, so I won't)

This is a home connection, have not tried any other wireless networks yet.
Other computers can connect fine to this network wirelessly.
Don't think this is because of security.
Re-installing drivers didn't do anything.
SSID/password also did not do anything.

What could be the problem?

Try changing the SSID of the network... sometimes a card will bugger up a known connection/security and the easiest fix is to change the connection all together. If other folks can sign into the network wirelessly, you know for sure that it's something going on with your setup in particular.
