EServer2007 - Our exchange server running exchange 2007
SServer2008 - Our SQL server running SQL 2008
IServer7 - Our Internet server running IIS7.

etc...

So the Server name says what it does and what version is installed on it.

on a security point of view, I would suggest you develop a naming scheme on your own with abbreviation. i.e with a p for production and t or l for test/lab. w for windows and l for linux. including the os version in the name is useful but. Again, I don't know what is the environment, and do not need to know, but you always need to keep security in mind.
