SOHO wifi routers often have a hard limit (<?>32<?> is a number that jumps into mind for some chipsets) you need to check your model's spec. However, a wifi channel is a shared medium and not scalable, e.g., for 802.11g all clients will share the theoretical 54 mbps, so you'll usually hit bandwidth problems and other wifi limitations well before the router limit.
