Switch died? How to test for sure.

Hey Guys, recently I was having video streaming issues from the WHS and after a couple of days of diagnostics I was able to conclude that it was the network switch that was causing the problem. I switched out the switch I was using for an identical one and the problems went away. Now my question is, how do I test this switch to see if it is truly the issue? It is Netgear 108GS switch. Any ideas?

(yes, I tried all other possible solutions including every possible fix on the WHS itself).

As for testing it, if switching it out fixed it, I guess you solved the problem.

If you really want to know if it's dying, refresh/update the switch's firmware, perform a hard reset and then put it back in your network to see if the problems persist.

That is what I would do.

Old one in, problem comes back.....new one in problem goes away. That is good enough reason for any company I have dealt with to issue an rma.

Ok, thanks guys. These switches are dummy unmanaged switches so no FW to upgrade. I will try switching it back and see if the problem comes back.

If that is an unmanaged switch, all you can do is to loopback the ports.

plug the ethernet cord to LAN 1 and the other end to Lan 2 [same goes with Lan 3 and 4]

if the lights are ok. There should be no problem with it. As what they've said, try the hard reset. Press the reset button for 1 min. while holding it in, unplug the power adapter then wait for 10 sec then release the reset button.

may I know the serial no. of your device?
