I work on the road, and have invested in a Telus 3G+ stick, and their 5GB/mo plan ($60) I have it on a Cradlepoint 900 router so that I can use the wifi for my iphone too (apps, and info like weather/stocks are just easier to reach over to the iphone while in bed)
So far there have been some teething pains, occasionaly I have a flaky connection but usually a computer&router reboot solves them. I've got up to 4500kbs but i'd say average 3k. You do have to pay close attention to the habits of the users (I'm my only user) for instance this month I hit 4.8gb on the 24th, and have severly limited myself this last week to web/email.... recently rediscovered an old game that now has online play and it eats the bandwidth.
I've had this router running during the 8hr drive from Calgary to Ft. Mac, and the coverage is pretty good.
I'm through relying on oilfield camps to provide any kind of internet connection.
-Should be noted I also have bought a cell booster with a 5ft antenna, that helps a bit.
