Well, looking at the reviews of this adapter on newegg, it seems to get bad ratings, people claim of the same issues you are having (then again, not alot of reviews on it). There are some suggestions offered, but it doesn't look good.

(Have a read for yourself if you wish Customer Reviews Of D-Link DWA-160 IEEE 802.11a/g, IEEE 802.11n Draft 2.0 USB 2.0 Xtreme N Dual Band USB Adapter Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA & WPA2) 802.1x - Retail )

If you don't plan on moving the card around, pci would probably be a better option. That triple antenna card might not be that awesome either, i'd suggest reading up. Sticking on more antennae does not warrant a more reliable card.

Installing a pci card is one of the easiest things you can do, depending on your computer just unscrew 2 screws or thumbscrews at the back of the left side panel, then unscrew one of the slot covers on the lower left of the case, put the card in, put the screw back in, throw the panel back on and BAM! done.

(The pci slots should be pretty obvious, usually white colored and will be exactly the length of the slot connector on the card. It is notched to make sure you don't put it in the wrong slot, so if it doesn't fit, don't force it. Also don't rock the card from side to side parallel with the slot - you can snap the connector.
You may use any pci slot you want, but it would be better to leave some space between the card and anything with a fan, to allow better airflow)
