My System Specs

Default I think cogeco is stealing my internet :(

Well first off let me say its kind of a silly statment to say they are stealing it but I dont know whats going on with it..

Well what has been happening for the last 2 months every night around 2 am my internet turns off and does not turn back on until 7 or 8 am sometimes it does not even go back on until the afternoon.

I have sent numerous support calls and questions and emails but have not received any good answers from cogeco about it.

I wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar or if I am going crazy.

Im in Hamilton ontario.

Just to clear some other things up, there are 6 computers and 2 laptops that get used on my cogeco pro account and they all experience the same down time that I am speaking of.

Just want to hear from any Canucks to see if there is a conspiracy going on with cogeco.

Thanks

Does their web site state anything about downtimes for current upgrades or servicing of their equipment?

What do you mean by turn off? If its that you can't connect anywhere, its possible that the thats when their throttling stops and the links are saturated form that point on until about 7. Or is it that you lose sync?

Someone turned your router's permissions to "offline" for those hours.....

Are you young? Do your parents have control of the router?

rofl im not that young :(.. lol I am 21

No there is no router permissions I checked that first. The problem started after they sent an email about downtime for a Monday a few months ago. Ever since the maintenance there has been many issues with my ability to connect and stay connected.

As for the usages I am the only one on my router at the moment because my sister is going to brock uni so she is not around. So the only computers on the router are mine and my girlfriends laptop sometimes. Neither my girlfriend, my sister, or I torrent at all and we dont use P2P sharing either.

There are 2 Linux boxes, 2 windows 7 computers, one vista machine, and my girlfriends laptop with xp. They all experience the same thing at the same time and only during the 2 AM to 7 AM time frame :(

I have called them and complained about it and they have not mentioned anything about downtime or any maintenance ongoing so they just keep telling me to keep trying. :(

Its just frustrating, and I wanted to know if anyone else has had a problem like this that or if as usual the ISP is blaming my stuff for their problem.

Have you tried going from your modem directly to a computer when this happens? (thus taking the router completely out of the question). When it happens, unplug the modem for 2-3 mins, plug back in (pay attention to the lights on the modem), run your network cable directly to the computer, restart the computer in safe mode with networking.

Also, are you using anything like OpenDNS, etc?

If you don't torrent then what are you doing on the computer at those hours?

Tell cocego to fix this or you will switch isp's and stiff them on the bill. In fact stop paying the bill until it is fixed.

I imagine your router is wireless, are you sure no one has hacked your router and is throttling your connection during those times (do you have any unusual bandwidth usage).
